time of Ghandi? What a wonderful film. What a depressing film. It makes me think how our culture, our fears and our weak humanity bind us with so many conditions in this life, why then do people add to their suffering by refusing to choose the good when it is in their grasp? What is it in us that finds comfort in a cage of our own making?

The movie makes the Pretzel's America look like Paradise. In so many respects, it is.

3. I've Seen It

Remarkable film made by Canadian Deepa Mehta. I found it really moving. Mehta had many problems shooting the movie. People in India didn't want to the world to know of their questionable cultural practices and her movie was sabotaged on many occasions. She finally completed the film in Sri Lanka.

Glad you enjoyed the film. It's one that everyone should see.

Interesting and of course, disturbing. We know well enough how difficult it is to tackle traditions that have their roots in religion. Gay marriage is one example. But, those women! My god, we are lucky to be living in the Western world.

Thought it was powerful, sad, moving. When it was over, my husband and I just sat there, unable to move. Meanwhile, the people in front of us started laughing about how awful it was and how "next time *I* get to pick the movie." Sheesh. They were probably repugs.

But I'm glad you liked it. My STBE husband and I had the same reaction, although I was sobbing and he was thoroughly angry as he always is when he is exposed to injustice of this sort. I don't want to see it again because it makes me so sad, but I'm glad for the one viewing.
