3. I was 8...
I was on a sleepover at my aunt's, and I remember it being on the news. I just found some old records at my dad's, we use to listen to them all of the time.

4. I remember that hot summer day....
Edited on Sat Oct-28-06 01:02 AM by KC2
...seeing my mother, just lying on the couch, saying, "Elvis died." Her voice cracked, as she spoke the words. Elvis Presley's music was something my mother and I shared. When my father was in Vietnam she used to take us to see old Elvis movies...it provided us with a strange sense of comfort. I don't know if it was the silliness of some of those movies, or Elvis' soothing voice...maybe a combination of both. Whatever it was, he'll always have a special place in my heart.

16. similar experience
I was never a big Elvis fan growing up, but I remember the shock of seeing my mom crying that day. She too used to listen to him when my father was in Vietnam.

I appreciate his music much more now.

6. I just realized he sang "Early Morning Rain" in 1972
Listening to SIRIUS Elvis Radio as I type this.

I think one of his best was "Can't help Falling in Love"..I love that song!

11. I'd rather hear this Elvis song than any other one
God Give Me Strength.

Now I have nothing, so God give me strength
'Cause I'm weak in her wake
And if I'm strong I might still break
And I don't have anything to share
That I won't throw away into the air

That song is sung out
This bell is rung out This belle is wrung out
She was the light that I'd bless
She took my last chance at happiness
So God give me strength, God give me strength

I can't hold onto her, God give me strength
When the phone doesn't ring
And I'm lost in imagining
Everything that kind of love is worth
As I tumble back down to the earth

That song is sung out
This bell is rung out
She was the light that I'd bless
She took my last chance at happiness
So God give me strength,

God if she'd grant me her indulgence and decline
I might as well wipe her from my memory
Fracture the spell as she becomes my enemy
Maybe I was washed out like a lip-print on his shirt
See, I'm only human, I want him to hurt
I want him
I want him to hurt

Since I lost the power to pretend
That there could ever be a happy ending

That song is sung out
This bell is rung out
She was the light that I'd bless She took my last chance at happiness
So God give me strength, God give me strength

12. "I can't help falling in love with you"
"Wise men say only fools rush in
But I cant help falling in love with you
Shall I stay
Would it be a sin
If I cant help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I cant help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I cant help falling in love with you
For I cant help falling in love with you

30. I saw "Blue Hawaii" at 7 with my parents in the local theater (1961).....
I think I was pretty bored but I enjoyed the cartoon.

I've always been very moved by the song whatever the reason...

or really, any of the heavy Southern Gospel stuff he did. Total genius. Wasn't there a documentary on PBS about that era? He really nailed his roots.

22. Devil in disguise
You look like an angel
Walk like an angel
Talk like an angel
But I got wise
You're the devil in disguise
Oh yes you are
The devil in disguise

You fooled me with your kisses
You cheated and you schemed
Heaven knows how you lied to me
You're not the way you seemed

You look like an angel
Walk like an angel
Talk like an angel
But I got wise

You're the devil in disguise
Oh yes you are
The devil in disguise

I thought that I was in heaven
But I was sure surprised
Heaven help me, I didn't see
The devil in your eyes

You look like an angel
Walk like an angel
Talk like an angel

But I got wise
You're the devil in disguise
Oh yes you are
The devil in disguise

You're the devil in disguise
Oh yes you are
The devil in disguise
Oh yes you are
The devil in disguise

Can't have just one. :D

But "Always on My Mind" ranks up there. I love that song when sung by anybody, but it's really tear inducing when sung by Elvis.
