Some moving advice
I asked for advice on moving, now I have some of my own.

Be careful not to pack every single pair of underwear you own.

1. That's funny!
I do hope that you took the advice about properly labeling those boxes so that you can quickly find the undies. :D

2. Also make sure the toilet paper is handy and not buried in a box.

4. Don't agree to help a friend move to a 4th floor walk-up
in Brooklyn.

Like my S.O. is doing on Saturday....

6. And if you do, -don't wear a wrap-around skirt in a high wind.

7. At this point
I've found the best advice of all.

Buy lots and lots of fire insurance, torch it and buy all new stuff.

If I never do this again in my life, it will be too soon.

8. "You always learn who your real friends are on moving day"
that's the truest axiom of all.

I moved from the US to france... sold off the entire household contents, 2 cars, and the freaking house. I was left with 50 boxes and one small dresser that managed to fit onto 2 pallets that took just over 2 months to reach our destination.

I shipped clothes, linens, bedding, some antiques, bauer pottery collection, momentos, art and kitchen goods... I still regret selling the miata and not shipping it over!!!

But in all those 50 boxes just 2 pieces broke... a piece of pyrex and a glass coffee carafe. The rest all made it through completely unscathed and intact.

I was really glad I had inventoried every item, since when it finally did get through customs, they needed a detailed list. It all worked out fine and was delivered to my doorstep!

It should be at least another 2 years before I move again, and then it will be into my dream house!
