Man killed by beer keg explosion

Investigators were trying to determine who tossed a beer keg into a burning barrel at a party, causing a deadly explosion that sent metal shards slicing through a crowd of people, police said.

The explosion early Sunday killed Sean Caselli, 22, of New Milford. Seven other people were taken to hospitals with burns and shrapnel wounds, police said. Caselli was struck in the neck by a piece of flying metal.

Police Sgt. Lee Grabner said investigators interviewed witnesses Sunday to try to identify the person who threw a quarter-keg of beer into the flames, and to determine whether criminal charges should be filed.

6. Kegs really are dangerous. It amazes me that people do such stupid...

...things to an aluminum barrel under pressure. I would say it's natural selection at it's finest but alot of times keg explosions hurt many more people than those who actually did whatever stupid thing caused it to explode.

7. My town and I know.................

quite a few of the kids there but haven't spoken to any of them yet. The band that played at the party and my band have played gigs together and I was talking to one of the guys at our gig on friday night. The boy who died was a year ahead of my youngest in high school and was recovering from a motorcycle accident that happened a few weeks back. I'm still trying to figure out who the others were that got injured. I'm sure I will find out at a gig Wed. night.
Really a stupid tragedy.

Like the one time some people took a couple of empties and decided to play human Donkey Kong on the stairs...but Jesus Christ, a full keg of beer? Tossed into a fire? What kind of fucking asshole not only does something that stupid and dangerous, but wastes AN ENTIRE FUCKING KEG OF BEER?

Caselli, 22, of North Valley Road, was killed in an explosion that police said was precipitated when someone threw an empty beer keg into a fire as the gathering on Aspetuck Ridge Road wound down shortly after 3 a.m. Caselli was struck by a piece of flying metal, and seven other guests were taken to area hospitals with less serious injuries.

So the poor guy is still dead, but at least no one was dumb enough to throw a full keg into the fire, so I guess that makes it all right.

I was at a camp once about thirty two years ago when a dude threw a small CO2 canister into a campfire as he walked past; the kind used to power those small cars kids made in shop class. Nobody was in the campsite at the time -- yeah, not so smart that there was a fire smouldering in the campsite unattended. We were about 100 yards away, and the explosion was pretty damned loud and sent stuff flying throughout that campsite. Scared the hell out of us. I cannot even imagine what a keg explosion would be like, but it must have been hellish.
