1. Looks like we are well distributed at this point anyway.
I really needed a category that says a small town in the middle of freakin' nowhere.

18. Me too! Pop. 120-- just beyond the willywacks!
It may be a small town, but I moved back here because I wanted to come home! Gonzo, 5thGenDem and Keph can all vouch for the fact that it is BFE!

2. Rural area
but within 10" of small cities, shopping, entertainment, etc. So it's not liking I'm hiding in the bad lands of South Dakota and have to drive 100 miles for food.

12. I've come full circle
from the middle of nowhere, to a University campus in the heart of what passes for a city in the South, to NYC, and finally back out to the middle of nowhere again. Given my choice, I prefer to live where I can't hear, see, smell, or otherwise experience my neighbors.

4. In a Small Town in the Middle of Freakin' Nowhere
AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!! (It's the kind of place where I always tell people who are worrled about Saddam's Weapons of Mass Destruction not to worry -- if he dropped one here, it would do at least $2 million worth of improvement. I don't have many friends around here. )

6. I don't know.
Is a suburb a city? I currently live in a city of about 120,000 or so. It is a suburb of L.A.

I don't live here willingly. Previously, I lived in the middle of fucking nowhere, and would live there again given the opportunity. Someday, if there are any rural areas left intact by developers, I will make it out of here.

8. Little bit suburb, little bit city
My mailing address is one suburb, the kids attend school and we have phone numbers of a different suburb, but I vote for city officials of the large neighboring city. I voted suburb, but who the heck knows?!?

9. I live in a suburb on the cusp of a rural area where everyone
is trying to be 'country cowboy.' I guess they think cowboys drive pickup trucks instead of riding horses, listen to Country music stations instead of making their own music, and display Bush/cheney stickers instead of "Don't tread on me" flags. Pretty broad definition of a cowboy.

Anyway, this is freakin' Washington State, fer cryin' out loud! Can't they move to Texas or someplace?

13. Big enough city
Over a million here, (S.D., CA) and I can see 40 story downtown bldgs 3 miles away, yet sometimes at night I can hear coyotes a block or 2 away. We always have skunks, raccoons and opossums, plus loads of birds and I have a large yard with trees, so it feels kinda country-like. Soooo quiet if I am home on a weekday.
I have U.S. Senators who are Democrats, a Democrat Repesentative, and a Democrat is my Ca State Senator for my district. And all this in a very Republican town. I feel lucky.

14. Small town
I believe that the population is around 7,000. We frequently drive to the small city about 25 miles away for shopping and entertainment.

19. Demographics here are really interesting.
...only 30% are suburban.

And lots of folks out in the counry or in small towns and citys. (not sure what a small city is...I guess we are talking about places like Stockton or Macon or Peoria or Fall River)
