Okay NOW I'm confused
A couple of weeks ago I needed three new tyres (ok, tires) for my car. I had a store card for the place, which I wanted to use because it was quite a lot of money. However, the card had expired - apparently they changed their store cards but never told me about it. :eyes:

I applied for a new one there and then, and they refused me credit. :o

I was shocked, because my credit history is SPOTLESS. So I requested my credit files from two of the three main credit agencies (I haven't done the third yet because they require a form to be sent by snail mail:eyes:) to see what the problem was.

I just checked my credit files. There is NOTHING that could be of concern, no late payments, and nothing on there that is not my own activity.

What the fuck is their problem? :wtf:

And on the letter they sent to me, they said they could not give any details about their credit scoring system, just that I had not met the required threshold. So that helps me none. :banghead:

I don't understand what more they could want. I have a credit history: I have a mortgage, a credit card and a loan for my car, and I have never missed a payment on anything!

I am quite bemused.

1. So they can refuse you
credit carte blanche? Totally unfair. Go to a different dealer, one that's happy to take your money. And don't go on bad tires.

2. Apparently they don't have to give a reason
But I don't understand what else I could do right.

I got the tyres anyway, I just had to put them on my credit card. The store card would have been better because that gave 3 months interest free.

5. hmmm...
sometimes having too much 'credit' or monthly payments can work against you. i am not saying this is the case, i just can't think of any other explanation.

i am sorry, hon. i am glad you were able to get the new tires needed though.

6. True, true
but I'm sure it isn't that. I have only one credit card, a mortgage and a car loan and that is all my credit.

Maybe my credit is too good? Maybe they prefer people who might miss a payment or two and allow them to charge a fee?

:silly:

11. That would be my guess
It sounds as though you use the store card only rarely, and only when it's beneficial to you. The store probably doesn't see any point in giving you an interest-free 3 month loan when it's not going to give them any profit. Of course, they don't want to tell you that, so they make up a story about you not meeting credit requirements...

I actually wouldn't mind if they told me that
I could see their point, if that is indeed the issue. Far preferable to making me feel like a delinquent in front of the other customers.

16. You might feel better, but I imagine the store has considered
the options pretty carefully, and concluded that if they are honest, a significant number of people will become angry and demand the deal (it seems that lots of people feel entitled to free things, and depending on how the store worded the offer they may in fact be obligated to provide it to anyone with satisfactory credit). On the other hand, I'd guess most people will leave pretty quickly when told that their credit is bad - basically 'cause no one likes to feel like a delinquet in public.

Also, if the store told you the truth, it would be like telling you that your business isn't that important to them...

7. I've heard that CC companies will drop people with excellent
credit because they do not make enough money from them to justify maintaining the card. People who pay on time and do not carry a balance from month to month are losers for the CC companies - no interest fees, no late fees, no overlimit fees, and the like. Maybe that's what happened to you?

10. It's very odd how these credit companies work.
Sometimes, if you have had an 'active' period on your credit account-which can be just hits on it by other companies looking to offer you credit-they will deny you credit because of those hits (which are just other companies checking you out, with or without your permission). Sometimes they want to see a cycle of charging and paying off. Like charging $3,000 and then paying it off over time. Sometimes they are just jerks. I'm sorry billy.

so I shouldn't have any difficulty when I want to buy a new car next year.

15. Something irresponsible
I haven't made up my mind yet; or rather, I've made it up a whole load of times. (And given that I'm not looking to buy anything until next summer earliest, I will surely make it up a whole load of times more).

I was thinking about a nice little Lotus, although I may go for an Audi hot hatch or something similar.

:loveya: you too.

18. My Best Friend Works For Visa
He's in charge of all collections for central Canada. When a customer pays off their balance every month and generally has excellent credit, they are really looked down upon. Visa makes no profit from people like that. I am one of those people. When I requested an increase in my credit limit last year, I was refused. I just stopped using their card and got an AMEX card instead.

Do you have a magical 4th tire that never gets old? Do you have a tricycle?
