How fast have you ever driven?
Me:

125 mph in a BMW M3. Could have gone faster, but jail came to mind.

I've also hit 105 in a KIA rental in backwoods Arizona and 110 (downhill) in a Nissan rental from LA to Vegas - began to float and nearly pissed my pants.

Scariest thing in the world, damn thing was nearly floating, no steering at all, probably burning a gallon of gas/minute.

Rented a Mini in Germany, got out on the autobahn and let her rip. Lots of fun and very stable.

Notice I say 'these'.I was working there in 95 for the as a civilian contractor for the Army. Our company provided rental cars for us. VW vans and the Mondeos. We had between 3-5 at a time and EVERYONE would haul ass like that.
I think they had some kinda 'speed chip' and the transmissions were geared differantly than here.
Our boss,of course, had to have a BMW.It was only about 5 mph faster. But on the back-country roads the fords handled better and would leave the BMW in the dust.
We were kinda freaked about it.

On a motorcycle I've gone well above. It's hard to say just how fast because the speedometer maxed out at 95 but the bike could go way faster, and did.

7. Not intentionally, but I got my car up to 100 mph once...
 :yoiks: I was driving to my mother's house on the interstate about fifteen years ago, and I was going with the flow of traffic. I looked down at the speedometer, and it said 100 mph. I slowed down to 80, and it's a good thing I did---a few minutes later, I passed one of the cars that was doing 100, and he had been pulled by a cop. (Speed limit in that area is 70.)

I usually drive 5-10 mph above the speed limit.

21. Cracked 160 mph recently, but not sure by how much
Looking down at my speedo at that velocity was not what I wanted to be doing. Sobering to know I still had another 30 or 40 mph on tap.

When conditions are appropriate, I cruise quite happily at 90-110 mph, but once I hit 130 mph I begin to get tunnel vision (it really is like looking down a tunnel -- very disconcerting, like the ultimate expression of the thousand-yard stare) and anything above that speed is a whole other story. For one, at 130-mph-and-above speeds I'm acutely aware that a jackrabbit, rock, or piece of loose sand could be the end of me, even if there's no traffic anywhere near. I'm very happy at 110 mph, and will even hit that on the piece of suburban freeway between here and the Vegas Strip (where traffic usually moves at 85 mph or more), but I almost never go faster. WIth a motorcycle it's not about speed, anyway: it's the acceleration that's the best part. :D

I went to visit a friend in Springfield, Missouri, I live near St. Louis, in St. Charles to be exact, and the trip should have taken about 3-4 hours, I did it in a little less than 2. I looked at the speedometer while cruising down I-44, and it was at 120, this is WITH the top down by the way. What a rush!!!!

52. Hell, you should have seen my hair...
It was sticking STRAIGHT UP and swooped back after that trip. Also, I don't think I was going 120 the entire way, I only know that I hit it a couple of times. I did stay in 3 digits for a large amount of that trip, also, my car just got 4 brand new tires at the time, and it has a low center of gravity, its a convertable after all, so the damn thing handled like it was glued to the road.

Well, the speedo only went up to 85, this was by my best reckoning.

Damn, for a 4-door with only a V6 that car had a serious pair when you droped the hammer on that sucker.

Too bad I abused the hell out of that car and the electrical system had more shorts than an old school night at the movies. I miss that car. The last time I ever drove it was to a Marinette County Dems meeting on July 27, 2002, the day John Entwistle of The Who died. After that, the Electrical System died for good.
