Today in history 10-12
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 11:21 AM by johnnie
1997 - Faaaaarrrrrr Ouuuuttt (That's for the older DU peeps who remember the 70s Denver). John Denver, piloting an experimental, amateur-built Long-EZ airplane, crashed into Monterey Bay, California. Must not make plane crash joke, must not make plane crash joke, must not make plane crash joke... OK, I didn't make one.

1969 - Paul is Dead (Paul McCartney that is). The rumor is started on this day out of a radio station based in Dearborn, Michigan. Many "clues" are found on The Beatles songs and album covers and the rumors persist to this very day. Starting in December of 1980, the "John is dead" rumors make the rounds and in 2001, the "George is dead" rumors start. Ringo, however has yet to be declared dead, with the exception of his solo career.

1957 - Little Richard announces to an audience at a concert in Sydney that he's giving up rock 'n' roll. He tells the audience, "If you want to live for the Lord, you can't take rock 'n' roll, too. God doesn't like it."

After realizing that God doesn't "put out" or deal pills, Richard returns to the stage in 1962.

1980 - A crazed concertgoer stabs seven people at a Blood, Sweat & Tears concert in Los Angeles. Sweat ran off the stage while Blood tried to stop the stabbings. Blood suffered many deep cuts. Tears on the other hand curled up under the piano crying "This sucks".

Other members of the band include, Runny Nose, Pus, Earwax, Toe Jam, Belly Button Lint and Fred.

1994 - MTV airs Jimmy Page and Robert Plant's Unplugged session, dubbed Unledded. Many people are disappointed to learn that "Unplugged" means they are using acoustic guitars and it doesn't mean "you will never hear them again.

Page and Plant:

1935 - Happy Birthday to Sam Moore of the R&B duo Sam & Dave.

Sam and Dave were one of many black groups to steal the blues and soul music from whitey and make a fortune without compensating the people they stole it from.

2002 - More than 25 years after his death, Elvis Presley is once again the King. RCA Records' "Elvis 30 No. 1 Hits" debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 500,325 units sold. This marks the first Elvis album to ever debut at the top of the U.S. chart.

Someone should tell Bruce who is the real "Boss"

2001 - Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland quits the band. It's quickly reported that no one gives a flyin' fuck.

1969, Born on this day, Martie Seidel from The Dixie Chicks. That's one of the other ones besides the loud one.

1993 - Faith Hill's debut album, Take Me As I Am, released. Never heard it, but I get to put up her picture again. :)

1935 - Happy Birthday to Luciano Pavarotti. PBS loves ya as much as you love the 5 for 5 deal at Arby's.

And Happy Birthday to Jeff Keith (1958). He was in that band Tesla. Remember? They had that tune in the 80s or something like that.

On the side:
1971 - Gene Vincent dies of bleeding ulcers at 36 :-(
(When is any ulcer EVER funny?) x(

"Many people are disappointed to learn that "Unplugged" means they are using acoustic guitars and it doesn't mean "you will never hear them again."

that is so good I'll forgive you for your comment about Elvis being the 'real boss' instead of his majesty, the son of God incarnate, Bruce Springsteen. Elvis is not 'the boss', Elvis is 'the king'. Elvis wouldn't want to be a boss, because they just dress real plain like a working man. Elvis would only ever want to be 'the king' anyway, because kings get to dress up in pretty clothes with rhinestones and wear makeup and style their hair and have billions of men fall in love with them without anyone ever wondering if they are gay.

Come again?

I put the Springsteen in there because I once saw a picture of Elvis sitting at home in his desk and he had one of those things on his desk that said "Boss". The caption said something about "Eat your heart out Bruce".
