What's your favourite obscure 80s horror movie?
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 01:00 AM by Lautremont
You can define 'obscure' however you like. I have many, but I'm quite fond of "Night of the Creeps" myself, made in 1986 and telling the breathless tale of two college freshmen battling alien slugs and the zombies they engender.

I'll try to think of another good one in response to every post (if anyone responds at all!).

3. It's a good one for sure. More obscure and almost as good
is the follow-up, From Beyond.

4. I haven't seen that one. But the title makes me think of
Hell Comes to Frogtown, starring the great thespian Rowdy Roddy Piper and a bunch of guys in frog heads.

18. it's a bunch of biker women who stumble upon
a town being taken over by zombies - not that you couldn't have guessed that!

The rebellious ladies are looking for "coitus," and there are some great lines.

7. That's a damn good one, as I recall.
It's a lot better than Cannibal Cookout.

6. EASY! Redneck Zombies!
this is the most obscure horror movie i have seen. Very funny, especially if you are high. They kill the undead with aerosol deoderant if i remember right.

8. Yeah, I think I saw that one back in the day. Deoderant tends
to kill rednecks whether they're zombies or not. (Proud rednecks: I kid!)

I remember one called I Was A Teenage Zombie: one of those movies where the soundtrack was way, way better than the movie. Return of the Living Dead would have had the same problem if it wasn't such a good movie.

10. But have you seen Frankenhooker?
Same director, also sick and twisted, but very entertaining.

11. No. But thanks for the title.
I first saw "BC" back in the mid "80's" as a rental from the local store. My friends and I happened to pick that off the shelf knowing nothing about it. We probably watched it 3 times that night, then we rented the same video numerous times after that.

I'm remembering the cheesy effects when a guy is sawed in half. You only see the legs from like the knees down.

One topples over one way.
The other...the other way.

We locked the car doors on the ride home.

13. They've remade it, apparantly. They remake everything these days.
The guy who wrote that wrote a pretty good vampire movie called Near Dark - also worth checking out.

14. They remade it? Good grief, why?
I mean, yeah, it WAS C. Thomas Hall, sure...but that doesn't mean it completely sucked.

And Rutger Hauer is a great psychopath.

16. CHUD is amazing! (Well, relatively.) Great pick!
Good cast, too - a "before they were stars" smorgasbord.

As for underground creatures, though - how's about Blood Beach? John Saxon? Burt Young? A giant eggplant monster lurking beneath the sand? "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water... you can't get to it!"

24. I still remember the themes song from "Sorority Babes..."
"Yumpin' Yim-in-ey, suck on my chim-in-ey!"

Which reminds me of another weird, campy 80s horror movie: Big Meat Eater.
