The RetroLounge Daily Poem Thread (Wed 10/11/06)
I Eat My Heart Out: A Villanelle

A good mother makes dessert everyday.
Caresses are sweet in cream puff caves.
I eat my heart out; I decay.

Whispers ripple through pudding parfait.
I wallow, I drift, I eat, I behave.
A good mother makes dessert everyday.

I decline, refuse, postpone, delay;
still smooth Hershey kisses I crave.
I eat my heart out; I decay.

My soul, sweet shreads, the price I pay.
I chew the cherry; the pit I save.
A good mother makes dessert everyday.

Thick custard fog covers the bay,
nausea rolls in, wave after wave.
I eat my heart out; I decay.

I starve while feeding on lemon frape',
push down a brownie, fill my own grave.
A good mother makes dessert everyday.
I eat my heart out; I decay.

Amy Crane Johnson

1. Good morning, my dear RetroLounge........
This is a weird poem; I don't know what to make of it, really!

A lot of metaphors here, I think........

Interesting choice!

Thank you.......

2. may I ask: is this a 21st century poem?
or was it perhaps written say in the mid 20th century

I am too lazy to google :P

besides is not the purpose of this thread to get some dialogue going about poetry?

to raise awareness in the Lounge (yeah, RIGHT....like that is really going to happen )

5. Oh no
Sorry.

The idea of dialogue in the lounge today struck me as funny. People seem to be a bit prickly.

6. oh, I see...it has been acting sluggish
and I hate that...no patience. So I haven't notice the mood.

However, back to the poem (heehee)

It just has the flavor of a housewife in the mid 50's...almost a Sylvia Plath in a manic mode

I think she is trying to say that she is losing her soul
while trying to be the "perfect" mother..
