Japanese Recipes?
My daughter is studying Japan today in school and I thought I would cook a Japanese meal tonight for her and teach her to eat with chopsticks. Have any ideas? Sushi isn't going to be an option, she isn't wild about raw fish yet at the age of 5. :) Thanks guys! Hope everyone is having a great afternoon! :)

1. Chicken Tempura
Pound out a couple of chicken breasts. Then slice them into strips. Mix up some tempura batter--About a quarter cup of tempura powder with some water. It should be a little thinner than pancake batter. Dip chicken strips in batter, then in panko bread crumbs and saute until golden brown. You can do it with shrimp too!

3. Gotta get the sauce, too
Available in the Asian Food section at most supermarkets. Slice up some zucchini and sweet potato--bet a five year old will love sweet potato tempura. Broccoli, onion rings and carrot cut into strips are common tempura items as well.

2. Tonkatsu is one of my favorites:
Tonkatsu is fried pork but you can also make it with chicken instead:

Chicken udon is also good or you can lose the chicken for a vegetarian meal:

An alternative to sushi would be to make a roll...something like a California roll is pretty kid friendly: http://japanesefood.about.com/cs/sushirecipe/a/sushi_ca...

Good luck!
