1. When you start getting replies to your dating site profile
Or at least, whoever accepts an invitation to a date at the grocery

2. Why wait?
Just don't do anything you don't want to do. Go ahead, make someone happy.

3. Pretty much whenever you feel like it.
There's no set rule on this.

Personally, I think if you were the dumpER, it's polite to fake a "mourning period" of a month or two.

But if you're the dumpEE, you're entitled to all the hot tawdry comfort sex you can get. Just don't take any of it seriously until you're sane again.

4. I'd suggest a small fraction of a New York minute.
Since it truly ISN'T the end of the world, you might just as well not act as if it was.

5. there are no set rules
but i wonder if it would be a good idea to recalibrate your identity. often enough, in long term relationships, the identities of the two people can merge in some ways, so you might need to get your bearings and have some "Cannikin time."

7. LOL! Like this?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike: So how long do I wait to call?
Trent: A day.
Mike: Tomorrow.
Sue: Tomorrow, then a day.
Trent: Yeah.
Mike: So two days?
Trent: Yeah, I guess you could call it that, two days.
Sue: Definitely, two days is like industry standard.
Trent: You know I used to wait two days to call anybody, but now it's like everyone in town waits two days. So I think three days is kind of money. What do you think?
Sue: Yeah, but two's enough not to look anxious.
Trent: But I think three days is kind of money. You know because you...
Mike: Yeah, but you know what, mabey I'll wait 3 weeks. How's that? And tell her I was cleaning out my wallet and I just happened to run into her number.
Charles: Then ask her where you met her.
Mike: Yeah, I'll ask her where I met her. I don't remember. What does she look like? And then I'll asked if we fucked. Is that... would that be... T, would that be the money?
Trent: You know what. Ha ha ha Mike, laugh all you want but if you call too soon you might scare off a nice baby who's ready to party.
Mike: Well how long are you guys gonna wait to call your babies?
Trent, Sue: Six days.

12. Um, not so much like that...
Mainly, just on the whole premise that Mike had come out of the 6 year relationship and was having trouble getting back into things.

But the above is good advice too

8. Woof woof. I started dating immediately
after a ten year relationship. But then that's allegedly why we broke up. Lot's of looking around.

9. You only live once.
Well, I keep getting told that.

If something doesn't work out, move on.

Yes, there is a period of grieving. Take the time to heal, but move on after that when you feel ready. Or if you feel ready. It's okay not to find someone else either.

11. I had intended to take some time. 6 months, a year maybe.
The reality: I think it was a week? Somebody wonderful was interested, and I was smart enough to jump on him before anybody else did.

I think what I'm saying is to pay attention to how you're feeling and to be flexible. Don't sideline yourself just because you think you should, but don't start seeing anybody until you feel whole again in yourself.
