19.  WRONG wrong wrong. You all have misunderstood.
did you listen to the rest of the lyrics??
What has happened is that he is with a woman who likes to be treated like shit. Who likes to wallow in the drama, go out with guys that beat her up. Maybe she likes to be humiliated; he thinks--oh; now he's figured her out. AS HE SAYS IN THE SAME SONG:

Ooooh
And now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard
Just to figure you out
And now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard
Just to figure you out

And I hate the places that we go
And I hate the people that you know
And I hate the way you can't say no
Too many long lines in a row
I hate the powder on your nose

==he put up with it for awhile, 'cause he was trying to make her feel better about herself, before he FIGURED OUT that she wasn't going to change; that she didn't want a nice guy.She has no self-esteem, and he hates dealing with it.

Just because a band is popular does not mean they are shitty, unintelligent, or assholes. Some of us plebians do have a bit of taste, and some people who are poplular can actually think AND play their instruments at the same time.

They wrote this lyric to follow coming from the point of view of a young boy witnessing his mother getting beat up by her new husband/boyfriend (not the boy's father):

Father's a name you haven't earned yet
You're just a child with a temper
Haven't you heard "Don't hit a lady"?
Kickin' your ass would be a pleasure

(but he can't because he's too small--the song is cathartic for him).

Don't judge before you investigate.

37. Don't assume your interpretation is the only one
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 12:54 AM by Susang
Or the correct one. Why do people always assume that they are the only ones who understands what a song is about and that everyone who disagrees with them is either stupid, misinformed or just plain wrong?

Once a song is written, it's out there, open to interpretation from anyone who hears it. What the songwriter says was intended doesn't really matter, especially if it isn't in language that is literal. Often, it ends up meaning something completely different than the songwriter originally intended. A good song should mean something different to every person who listens to it.

Don't judge, period. :eyes:

21. The new album is one of the best things out in popular music this year.
Edited on Sun Oct-08-06 09:29 PM by lildreamer316
I have already endured a flamefest here for this statement, but I stand behind it fully. If everyone is going to bother to judge something by what they hear on the radio and their pre-concieved notions, that's their problem. I can agree that we don't all like the same music, and that's fine. But if someone is going to analyze the music wrongly, like always seems to happen with anyone who dares to be popular, and that happened upthread, that's just very judgemental.
I guess Ozzy's lyrics ARE satainc, and the Beatles were telling me to buy a warm gun to be happy. What??
I don't like rap particularly, but I will listen to the song in question BEFORE I pronounce it mysogynisitc and etc.
LostInVA; I really am not attacking your personal impression of the lead singer. You have a right to view him any way you want, and I'm not trying to argue with that. I'm just tired of all of the left side thinking that anything popular is evil and crap.
Maybe people think the radio might NOT play the best stuff that particular artist has put out??? Has that ever happened to any of their favorite artists?? What is so wrong with making some money AND having a few good songs? Sheesh!!

Whatever, not sure why I bother. No one's gonna listen to me anyway; I'm just a stupid blonde stripper. Strikes against me, all.

27. No no no.
It's just my way of expressing my frustration. It's a metaphor in a way for the fact that people seem to always think I don't know what I'm talking about (that being whether I'm a stripper, blonde, or not). Just being sarcastic and snippy. It seems that in many arguments about this subject, it is automatically assumed that if I happen to like some part of popular music, then I must not be very well versed in music or other things. This seems to be assumed whether they know I'm a stripper or not. I was just adding to the pile.
and I seem to recall you and me having the lovely Niclkleback argument before, so I'm gonna stop talking about this right now.

I mentioned that I did not think Nickelback's music would stand the test of time. Hoo, boy. The rest of my family fired back that they will be remembered longer than the Who or the Rolling Stones. I still beg to differ (but now I have learned to keep it to myself), although it was fun to point out an on-line poll to my wife where the lead singer Chad was listed as one of the top ten ugliest men in the world due to the size of his massive head.

53. I agree with you
They seem to have replaced Creed as the "Mainstream rock band we can blame for everything that is wrong with radio today." Really, I agree that they're nothing special, based on the singles that I've heard; I liked a couple O.K., though a couple were horrible, and was indifferent to everything else. But I don't understand why they have become such a commonly-bashed band; this extends beyond DU to various forms of entertainment/music-related media to people I've discussed music with off-line. I think it's primarily due to lack of original thought on the part of mainstream music/radio-bashers, but what do I know? :hide:
