Favorite Tom Hanks movie?
I'm not sure whether he's loved, hated or just considered overrated around here (I'm betting on the latter) but he's certainly piled up the statuary and boffo box office. I don't really have a horse in the race, though I'm the rare person who will admit that I like Forrest Gump (in this case the movie, not the DUer, though I like him, too) but I haven't seen a lot of his big blockbusters. Anyway, whatchathink? A poll may result eventually.

5. Ditto on Apollo 13.
Hanks was much less mannered, smug and generally irritating than usual. For once, he didn't get in the way of the story.

7. He doesn't like you either.
He told me so yesterday when I was drunk and hallucinating.

Or maybe it was Mark Lin Baker. I don't really remember.

10. Hey, hey (not to be confused with the DU blogger)
Why do you hate Hanks' acting ability or his roles, or both?

Or is it about the WWII statues in DC?

14. I think you have good taste.

There is one I don't like, Punchline with Sally Field.

Come to think of it, it's also my least favorite Sally Field movie so maybe it's just a bad movie & not Tom's fault. :P

11. I was SO pissed at his "Cast Away" character...
...he's lost on a pacific island....he has fire....he has a mountain, or at least a high rock outropping high above him, which we see when he decides to commit suicide...
but it NEVER OCCURS to him to take some coals and build a bigass fire, or three in a row, as the Boy Scouts use for a distress signal, where SOMEBODY MIGHT ACTUALLY SEE IT!
dumbass!

the plane crash scene scared the living shit out of me, i must say......i still think of it every time i fly, godammit.

And The Green Mile made me bawl. Life sucks, and in that case, art imitated life.

19. I like Tom Hanks. A lot.
He's probably one of the most talented actors in Hollywood. He can do drama, and is a genius at comedy. I can't respect any actor that can't do comedy well. Michael Cain once said that drama is fun but comedy is like working on a high wire. Tom Hanks worked on the high wire for years.
