What's the difference between lagers and pilsners?
Is a pilsner a type of lager or is there a difference?

1. Anyone who knows the answer, is not someone you want to drink a beer with.
Beer is not something that needs to be taken that seriously.

3. Oh, no reflection on you having asked the question, you know that.
Just taking the opportunity to post a snooty and absolutely uncalled-for comment.

it's just like I have again used the lounge to start yet another beer-related topic. :toast:

5. You wouldn't have a beer with me?
A lager is any bottom fermented beer. A pilsner is a bottom fermented beer that has more bittering hops added to it.

All pilsners are lagers, but not all lagers are pilsners.

I don't take beer that seriously. Hell, I'm drinking a Corona Light currently. It's just one of those useless random factoids that fill my brain and take up room that could be put to better use.

7. I view beer the same way I view Mexican food....

I enjoy the bastardization of Mexican food that is Taco Bell but I also enjoy the real stuff. The stuff that most anglos don't know about and don't want to know about. I enjoy good beers and can appreciate them for their flavor, taste, and complexity. Still I hate to admit it I enjoy a watery, light beer on a hot day in the summer.

10. A Rolling Rock on a hot day, so cold that there are crystals of
ice clinging to the bottle....nothing better. Nothing.

9. Of COURSE I would. As long as you jabber about random factoids; I like
hearing those. I'll jabber my own back, and we'll have a great time.

As any beer-drinking session should devolve, yes?

11. If it doesn't devolve, you're not doing it right.

4. From wikipedia:
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 07:28 PM by Fox Mulder
Lager is a well attenuated beer brewed in cool conditions using a slow-acting brewers yeast, known as a bottom-fermenting yeast, and then stored (or "lagered") for a period in cool conditions to clear away particles and certain flavour compounds to produce a clean taste. The most popular examples of beer brewed using the lager method are pale lagers, also known as pilsners.
