The father appreciation thread

So, as was detailed yesterday. I'm all saddend and confused as a young man can be over women problems. So, tonight I had a few drinks with the ole' man and for the first time in my life talked about women.
Wow, I feel so good and informed right now.

1. How wonderful....and great that you feel better.

My father has been gone for 14 years. :( I miss him so much and still love him so much. He was my first love. Only in a good way.

2. Dads are the best.

My Dad is a gem of a human being. Completely selfless, incredibly hard-working, and enitirely humble. Growing up, he always treated my sister and I like we were the best human beings that ever lived. He didn't turn on the tv and tune out when he got home; he scooped up my little sister, and spent time with her and I. I get a major kick out of seeing my kids make him smile. He especially has a soft spot for my daughter because, my Mom says, she reminds him of me as a little girl. No man on earth will ever compare to the kind of guy my Dad is.

4. Your father sounds a lot like mine....

When I was quite young, I loved to have him comb out my hair when it was washed. He did it so well. My mother suffered from depression and an anxiety disorder...and he always dealt with it so well. Even the times when my mother (who had worked in downtown Chicago for years) got totally discombobulated when she took us downtown shopping...and she would have to find a phone and call him to come rescue us. He always did.

5. Oh boy, I can relate to what you described.

My Mom was not exceptionally emotionally grounded. She was depressed alot, too. I remember when my sister was a baby, my Dad taking us in the car and just driving around with us, while my Mom had some kind of freak-out at home. My Dad was/is always the level one.

7. Scary, wasn't it????

Given the times when my sister and I grew up (1950s/1960s) -- we are decrepit -- we knew nothing about depression. It was only when we were adults that my mother was diagnosed and treated with medication and psychotherapy. Mostly the meds.

Eventually, I started reading about things of that nature and realized where my mother was at. It was damn sad. He life must have been hell, because she lived with it until she died. Happily, I take after my father so much and my sister is so damn driven that she seems to be all right.

6. I remember my birds/bee's talk with my father...

"Son"

"yes dad"

"You know women, right?"

"Yeah, I guess"

"Well son, always treat them with respect, okay?"

"Okay dad, gotcha..."

"Glad we had this talk son"

i can talk about anything with mine and it is so wonderful.

i am daddy's little girl to the core and i know i can count on him no matter what.
