I found homes for two short stories today.

Well, actually I subbed them a while ago, I just got the acceptance tonight. Still, I'm pretty pleased about it.

I am so happy for you. I think that short stories are the hardest thing on earth to write. They are also my favorite prose.

I haven't subbed much at all over the past few years so I was pleased. I love short stories...and the shorter the better. Every word, every syllable, every comma counts. Every pause carries layers of meaning.

Heh, if I put both of these together, the word count wouldn't hit 1000.

How do you decide to whom you submit your stories?

10. That's the hardest part,

because I'm a lousy judge of markets. A lot of it's hit and miss. I'll find a lit journal or someplace and be reading and I'll think of something I've written that seems like it's the kind of thing that that particular place likes, or if someplace is running a theme and I've got something that seems like it'll fit the theme, or sometimes it's just 'close my eyes and point'.

I don't especially like hunting markets, though...it's something that I should do and it's something that I used to do more often, but I've gotten lazy in the past year or so.

Plus, it's frustrating when I misjudge and I get the "Thanks for letting us consider your work, however..." It's part of the game, but it's frustrating after a while.

And thanks...I'm pretty pleased.

I haven't submitted any work in years. I really should!

I used to collect Rejection Slips and tack them on the wall above my computer for inspiration.

I had a string of stories and poems published back in the 90's.

When that acceptance shows up it so totally rocks! As do you... :yourock:

21. I don't sub nearly as often as I should

I think I've only sent out about a half-dozen pieces this year and that's BAD. I've placed four of them though, so I shouldn't complain.

And it does feel good when you open it and, instead of "Thanks for letting us consider your work, unfortunately..." you find: "We'd like to..."

And I think that starting a quarterly is a great idea...you're right, there are a LOT of creative people around here.
