Update on my situation

It seems that the cancer had spread through most of my internal organs, As of testing on friday, they seem to think that I am about to suffer kidney failure from the cancer.

I am currently taking meds to counteract some of the problems that my system is already having, and I am also being given morphine for pain.

my mind is still clear most of the time and I am able to make my own decisions.

I will continue to write and fax my officials with my concerns as far as our non-government goes, as long as I can.

The pain in my back and stomach area is getting worse on a daily basis. Today I was able to get out of bed long enough to eat something, and sit to watch a movie for a bit.
I am now typing back from my bed where the morphine is starting to flow once again.

family is the most important thing in your life. never let it go.

if you all dont care to listen to my ramblings, please let me know and I will stop.

I have already instructed my wife to notify all of my groups I belong to when I pass. I have written a short notice that she will post for me.

I've no idea who you are to be honest, though I had a friend pass away a few years ago from similar causes, and he faced it with about the same attitude despite only barely being of voting age. (The local LGBT crowd now has a community centre, I believe, named after him now; this pleases me greatly.) All I can do from where I'm watching is admire it whenever I see it.

A strange thing just happened eggbeater. As I sit here writing to you, I felt something looking at me..now realize I'm on the second floor of my home, everyone including pets are downstairs and I have no trees outside my windows. I looked to the window and two tiny sparrows were sitting a top my window air conditioner gazing at me with cocked heads. I was able to walk to the window before they flew away. I don't know what it means..perhaps it will mean something to you.

Its true that billions are being wasted killing people in an attempt to liberate and make free some oil reserves, and that has to stop.
That my friend is a job that people like you MUST continue to fight. In the streets, at the polling place, with letters, phone calls, fax's etc... I too will continue to do so as long as I can. EVERY SINGLE VOICE is needed.

But as far as the cancer goes, they are working on it, but it is such a nasty and unpredictable thing that has so many different faces to it, its very hard to pinpoint any one cure.
For every person that goes through it, progress is made while trying to help them.
Not to long ago, breast cancer was a death sentence for many women, Today due to research, and as sad as it may be, the sacrifice of those women that did die from it, breast cancer survival rates have become very high.
the same with other types of cancers.

here is the hard part to swallow.
My cancer was caused most likely from years of smoking. I brought this on myself, nobody forced me to fire up the smokes 20 times a day, I bought them, and with my own decision, I smoked them. Even though I knew the dangers. It wont happen to me right?

All that aside, regardless of the outcome of my personal situation, maybe by my suffering this self induced illness, the cure may be one day closer.
If a couple weeks or months of my pain can help find a good cure for others in the future, then my pain, my death will have value to others.

In short, dont mourn my passing if and when it comes, rejoice in the knowlege that science might be one day closer to maybe saving one of your loved ones in the future.

OOPs, time to take a zillion pills. be back in a bit if I dont choke and die while doing it.

As a former smoker, it's my opinion that you were addicted to nicotine, and the tobacco companies are responsible, at least in part, for that addiction.

I don't mean to turn your thread into a discussion about the tobacco companies, but the fault is not yours, at least not entirely, IMO.

The important thing right now is that you are having a better day, and that makes me happy.

most dont smoke because they are intellegent enough to make that decision.
You quit because you were intellegent enough to make that decision.

I had the same information and facts as you, yet I chose to smoke regardless.
I dont think we should blame the car manufacturer because I made my car go 120 mph and hit a pole.
I dont think we should try to play off my responsibility or lack of when it comes to my choice of smoking.

thats just my theory on the subject. By no means do I try to make it stand as the only theory.

120. Quitting smoking is one of the most difficult things I've ever done.

I tried six or seven times before I finally did it. It was not my knowledge that smoking was unhealthy that helped me, but rather personal opinions that a) I could not afford to smoke, and that, b) I did not want to teach my infant children to smoke.

Addiction to any chemical, including nicotine, is an extremely difficult thing to overcome. I think you will agree with that.

I think you might also agree that the tobacco companies spent a lot of money getting young people addicted to nicotine. Their advertising was aimed at young people, because they knew that getting young people addicted for life to nicotine would pay off big. And they concealed scientific data about the effects of nicotine, because they knew that data, if known, would cut into their profit margins. When you and I were young, and beginning to smoke, we did not have this information, and so we became nicotine addicts.

So I am not as forgiving of the tobacco companies as you are.

I should also say that I am very concerned that what I am saying to you about this, even though I believe it is true, is not appropriate at this time. Because you seem to be at peace with your cancer, and I absolutely do not want to do anything to change that. I truly hope I am not.... please forgive me if I have.
