What music are you looking forward to this fall?
I already have these on my wish list:

Shawn Colvin - These Four Walls
Kasey Chambers - Carnival
Sugarland - Enjoy The Ride
Sandi Thom - Smile...It Confuses People
STEFY - The Orange Album
Barenaked Ladies - Barenaked Ladies Are Me
Mindy Smith - Long Island Shores
Veruca Salt - IV
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
Indigo Girls - Despite Our Differences
Pete Yorn - Nightcrawler

Good chance of buying -

Evanescence - The Open Door
Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell III
TV On The Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
M. Ward - Post-War
Beyonce - B'day
Beck - The Information
The Killers - Sam's Town
Bob Seger - Face the Promise
Cardigans - Super Extra Gravity
Everclear - Welcome to the Drama Club

Possibly will buy -

John Mayer - Continuum (liked Room For Squares, but it's not great, and I didn't buy Heavier Things.)
Nellie McKay - Pretty Little Head
Janet Jackson - 20 Y.O.

These are all in addition to other CDs I have to catch up on. And I'm sure I'm missing some new/upcoming releases. Already have Lillix, Persephone's Bees, and Libby Johnson's 2006 CDs on order.

2. I used to be a HUGE Janet Jackson fan.
About 13 years ago she released one of her best albums - JANET. I remember buying this from the $50 that my grandfather gave me from one of his pity visits that he paid to my cousins and I - and I loved this album along with Control and Rhythm Nation 1814. Since then I have not liked her music at all. Velvet Rope did not draw my attention at all. Neither did All For You and Damita Jo.

3. Yeah, I pretty much agree
I liked her music up through Janet. But since I haven't liked her recent stuff, I put her only in the "possibly buy" category.

5. A couple modifications
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 11:06 AM by mvd
- not buying the Bob Seger. There are a couple barnburners, but the rest is pretty much filler. And some ballads show that his voice has deteriorated so much that it can be painful. I'd give it a C. Will keep listening to his older stuff..

- not buying the John Mayer. It is not a complete failure, but it needs more songs like "Belief" too avoid sounding just as snoozy as smooth jazz. His voice is more suited towards the breezy pop of Room For Squares. Another depressing thing: "Waiting On The World To Change," a weighty matter, has arrangements that have the urgency of kids' music. Grade: C+

- made the Sandi Thom a "maybe" instead of a wish list item. "Lonely Girl" and "Sunset Borderline" are great, but I'm not sure after hearing more that she distinguishes herself enough for me to buy her album.

I've heard some from the Shawn Colvin, Barenaked Ladies (listening now,) and Kasey Chambers - they sound as good as I expected!

11. Oh yeah, forgot about the George Strait
I'll likely get it, but if it's similar to his others again, I can wait again.

I'll at least take a listen of the Tom Waits. Not a fan of Jet..

8. The new Okkervil River CD
Just saw their offshoot band, Shearwater, last night, and they were fantastic. Got their new CD, but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.
