Heads up for anyone thinking at all about moving abroad ....
Edited on Sat Dec-20-03 10:20 PM by hlthe2b
should the unthinkable happen and Bush steals the election again.

The Jan/Feb issue of Utne Reader had three articles on the ups and downs of expat life, including some useful web links. The series of articles show the pros and cons. (There is also a global forum of expats at www.utne.com/cafe).

This issue is not yet up on their website, but look for it in a week or so. You, might just want to pick it up, because there is also a good article by Al Franken.

A bit of a flavor from one of the articles: "There's no worse reason for moving abroad than politics, says one expat expert." The article then goes into the experiences of those who did (most during Vietnam).
Food for thought....

1. Thanks for the info!
I had to let my Utne subscription lapse because I couldn't spare the money to renew it, so I would have missed the articles. I am, indeed, seriously considering moving to Canada or another English-speaking country if the unthinkable and unbearable happens next year, I truly don't think we as a nation can survive another term of the Bushistas.

2. Yeah, it's good stuff, but I won't move. We must stay and fight.
We need everyone here, especially if Bush takes the next election. We can't spare any comrades at this time in the nation's history.

5. I lived abroad before
I could do it again, if need be. My best friend is SERIOUSLY considering a move to Canada with his family if Bush steals again or Dean gets in.

It's just that bad in some places, with the indoctrination.

6. I live in Seattle
It's easy to make friends with Canadians in Vancouver...I have several online Canadian friends willing to put me up for awhile should an anti-American win (such as those who voted for PATRIOT ACT, et al).

If Bush lets us leave, that is.

8. No!
The Republicans will never drive me from my own soil(metaphorically speaking, as who among us can ever "own" the earth?). I will fight them with all my strength, but never with violence, for to do so would be brutish, and uncivilized.
