Two Yankees charged in bullpen fight

BOSTON, Dec. 18 — New York Yankees Jeff Nelson and Karim Garcia were charged Thursday with assault and battery for fighting with a groundskeeper in the Fenway Park bullpen during a playoff game against the Red Sox.

A clerk magistrate also found probable cause to go forward with Nelson's cross-complaint against Paul Williams, 24, a middle school teacher and part-time groundskeeper from Derry, N.H.

2. Poor sportsmanship sinks to a new low.

Well, if they beat us in the playoffs, we can always arrest their sorry asses.

I'm a fan of neither team, but this is ridiculous. Lack of witnesses? How many millions of us saw Williams charge Nelson. Garcia went over the wall in defense (a poor choice) of his teammate.

There were no injuries that I recall; aside from a few bruised egos and maybe a bruise or two that were probably less severe that sliding into second would cause.

Let's face it: when sporting events become this important, we need to mend our value system.
