Poll question: Do you cut your own hair?
Via one of those home-based haircut gadgets?

2. I trim my own bangs
They grow out every other week, so I don't really have a choice. I've gotten pretty good at it over the years, too (not to brag or anything).

3. I use scissors.
I used to groom dogs and my mother used to be a beautician years ago. I guess it runs in the family. I also cut my aunt's hair, but she likes it shaved nowadays.

It looks like crap, but saves a ton of dough.

9. I used to cut my own hair when I wore it short (rather like a Princess
Diana cut, but without the face and body to go with it, *lol*) but it took a LONG time (my hair is really thick). And it was kind of hard to do the back; I usually managed to cut myself (snipped knuckles) pretty regularly.
I wear it long now and get someone else to trim it every other month or so.

Edited on Sun Aug-13-06 09:53 PM by pitohui
got tired of being bitched out by snotty hairdressers who didn't like what the last snotty hairdresser did, if my hair is to look shitty anyway, it can look shitty without all the sturm und drang

more $$$ for my freeze 24/7 and lip venom anyway, shitty hair can pass in a bun or a ponytail or as a statement (like that chick who didn't ever comb her hair in the movie, the fifth element), shitty skin never can

13. I've been cutting my own hair for about a year and a half.
I always had had it cut by my sister, who is a professional hair stylist, but she moved about ten miles away, which was too inconvenient (Previously she lived about a mile away). She since has moved back to town and lives one block from me, but I had bought a clipper in the interim, and now am used to doing my own hair, so that's what I do. I also cut my wife's hair, but that's pretty simple because I just trim off the split ends of her very long hair.

14. My last haircut was for a court date in 1994.
My NEXT haircut, whenever that dark day comes,
certainly will be done with a home-based
gadget: a disposable razor.

25. Not at all, hon. I'm contemplating buzzing my own; saving money...
That's essentially what they do at the barber shop; buzz at the little #1 setting (1") and trim down the top. Whee.

16. Do now. As of a few months ago. Used to cut it now and then when I was
vagabonding around in my 20s, just once with unfortunate results (a bald spot, though I was always wearing baseball caps back then and so it wasn't the end of the world).

Haven't been to a salon this year and will keep cutting my own hair as long as I seem to be doing a good job. My hair got pretty long by around April but I just couldn't be bothered going out to get it cut (always hated getting haircuts, anyway) and so I chopped it off myself and was very happy with the results. It saves money and hassles but, more importantly, I know exactly what I want (asking for an 'Elvis' haircut won't do, because I'm likely to end up with a '50s ducktail pompadour rather than the whatever-the-name-is hairstyles he sported in the '70s) and you're not always guaranteed to get it from a hair stylist even if you bring in pictures of the desired cut. Besides, I've had some great women cut my hair lately, but they keep moving on from the salons and I have to audition new prospects, and the only way to do that is to risk getting a bad cut (and a bad cut directly affects my work in that nowadays my 'look' is more important to my making living than it sure ever was before).

I can also cut my hair any time I want, though I still tend to let it go a couple of months between trims. And I mainly just cut the back and sides, where it gets very thick and bushy, and just the bangs to stop them bouncing in my eyes, but I leave the top and just let it get longer and longer, because it suits the look I'm going for. Best of all, there's no risk I'm going to take a swipe at or otherwise desecrate the precious sideburns that took me so long to cultivate... :D

I just use scissors. I'm probably at least partway able to get a decent look out of it because I paid attention to, and asked questions about, some of the cutting tricks I noticed my last hairstylist using.
