33. Yes, it's a katana. Picked it up at a karate tournament a few years ago.

As my one sword obsessed friend said, "Well, it's made in Taiwan, that's why you got a good deal. Although, it's still a well-made sword...probably decapitate a guy real easy with this." He's kind of an odd guy. Scares the neighbors a lot with his katana...uses it to clear brush in the yard.

Dangerous. I used to do iaido, and have a iaito, and sensei ALWAYS stressed the tang thing to us.

It cost me almost $200, which is way cheaper than the Japanese ones, but it's not like one of the $30 katanas you see.

Anyway, I don't actually cut anything with it. It's mostly just to look cool. Most of my fooling around with swords takes place with a boken anyway, so I'm not really concerned about breaking it.

She was flipping it around absentmindedly (an adult and a brown belt, no less) and dropped it on her foot. It went through and she was out of commission for almost a year.

I've mostly gotten banged up hands from weapon injuries. Mostly from bo-bo kumite at full power (although I did also get a nasty leg bruise from that once because my partner was an idiot) or from doing eschrima with a partner. We don't wear any padding (or gloves) so we really can't slip up.

I had to quit because it was just too hard on my knees. So many of the kata start out from seiza, and too many injuries destroyed me.
