I suppose the reason why I sounded so odd was because I was nervous--I hate the telephone with a passion. I don't like talking to people I can't see. TYPING to people I can't see is fine. But not speaking.

It doesn't sound like me, damn it! What I hear in my head when I speak is NOT the voice I hear on the answering machine or any recording. It's wierd and I don't like it at all. I sound like a major dork.

When I was growing up, I never liked hearing my voice on tape. But in my late teens I got into being a DJ, and was one for a number of years. Learned how to modulate my voice, breathe right, enunciate properly, etc. etc. It just took a bit of practice, and hearing myself through the earphones as immediate feedback.

Now apparently I've a nice voice, being as many people have said so through the years. It was just a matter of practice

I hear it and I'm like, "Holy shit. How do I even have friends, if I sound like that?" People assure me that it's all in my head, even my sister, who would definitely tell me, if my voice was annoying.
