When I was 10, I finally ordered the 45 rpm record for my dad's birthday.

Interesting story...I'm at a kids' paradise. About 12 years old and at Disneyworld. What happens while we're there? Gary fuckin' Puckett is playing at Epcot Center and we all have to accompany my mother to watch this old, creepy crooner sing that shitty song. Ruined my day.

I'm amazed at the Eagles-bashing here. Great band to sing along to on cross-country drives.

17. My parents have pretty good taste in music. Maybe a little heavy

on Pat Boone. My father, though, surprises me still. He was scanning channels the last time I saw him, and stopped on some album cut from Norah Jones. He's very blue collar and rarely expresses his own preferences in anything, and I sometimes forget his passion for music. He grew up in New Orleans, and always had accordians, pianos and guitars around the house. Never learned to play any of them, but I'm starting to realize how much he wanted to.

I guess I bought this 45 for my dad when I was 13 or 14. We had a Magnavox console stereo with an auto-repeat function on the phonograph. My dad would put "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" on autorepeat and fill a full afternoon with that droning song.

Alberto Gonzalez has approved this technique for use at Gitmo.

I tended to like what my parents played, although I've never understood why they didn't collect Frank Loesser musicals to go with their Rodgers and Hammerstein et al.

I have a happy memory of my father driving me to the airport while we played tapes of big band music.

And my stepmother introduced me to opera, for which I will be forever grateful.
