~* ONE YEAR ------- NOT SMOKING*~
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 07:12 AM by underpants
Yep one year ago we brought Josephine home from the hospital I was scared as hell had no idea what we were doing got home set everything up as best as I could went out onto the back stoop and smoked 2 cigarettes finishing right at midnight of August 2nd. Today begins my second year of not smoking after 22 years of at least a pack a day.

WOW I can't really even think about going back to smoking. Oh I would love to have one and always will I guess but I couldn't imagine the constant smoke checks when leaving work or leaving home or leaving to go out. Do I have enough? Where will I stop? etc. The fact that I had to plan around going certain places based on how I would be able to smoke is just hilarious at this point. That being said I couldn't have imagined not smoking I mean REALLY NOT SMOKING for a whole year.

I am very proud of myself.

Every single element of my life is drastically improved but I can't say I regret the smoking years (lord knows they were fun) and I didn't quit because of our daughter being born I quit WHEN she was born- I don't buy into doing or not doing something because of or for someone else it is your decision and your choice to follow that decision or not- but I knew that I would never have a better moment to do it.

I used the patch and Orbit gum (I highly recommend the Citrusmint and Sweetmint combination).

:toast:

i'm starting to see these things for the nuisance they really are. went to the Sox game last night and since I was leaving directly from work, I had to make SURE I stopped in the morning to pick up enough to cover my work day AND the evening.

pain.in.the.ass.

i have a doctor's appointment coming up. maybe its time to ask for a prescription.

21. Do it. All the docs, nurses, etc., said the ONLY reason
my husband survived the surgery and came off the bypass machine was because he had never smoked.

27. WOW
My father-in-law had his last one on the way to the hospital to have quadruple bypass when he was 36. Never had one again. He had been smoking FOUR packs a day since he was 15 or so and working on the railroad.

22. Fantastic! I takes real courage to quit. You deserve to feel very proud.
I quit 12 years ago. I used the patch and...pizza. Not a great substitute and I gained tons of weight...but I quit and I've stayed quit.

Quitting remains one of the proudest accomplishments of my life.

I am very happy for you and your family...especially that sweet smelling little baby-girl!

28. Well I don't know how I used to run
I haven't really gone full bore on the running but I can really really tell a difference. My problem right now is trying to eat all the food we got for Josie's first birthday party. WAY too much ice cream.

Congratulations! :applause:

I remember starting out the same time as you, but I had to press the reset button and haven't smoked at all since January 3, with LaraMN keeping friendly and encouraging tabs on me.

26. 7 months?
Good for you. Very good for you.

You have it beat by now, for me at least the first 10 days were the hardest.

Go out and look at the people in the smoking area or out on the street smoking and TELL me that you want any part of that again.

:hi:

24. congrats and keep it up for the rest of us
who can't seem to quit. Well actually I had quit for close to 5 years but when my marriage broke up it became a convenient crutch. Now I'm involved with someone who smokes a whole lot more than I ever did and now I'm finding myself trying to keep up.

I guess once an idiot, always an idiot...........................

29. Yeah being around a smoker would make it tough
Like I said elsewhere here after 10 days I just didn't want to "give up the days" and it has been fairly easy since then.

after the first couple of weeks when I quit I had totally forgotten about the cravings and urges.

34. Congratulations on your milestone!
That is excellent, indeed! I will be 4 weeks smoke-free this Saturday, and while I have a ways to go to hit the one-year mark, I still feel good that I'm not smoking.

Kudos to you, and keep it going! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
