Of course I have the obligatory "Lawyers Guns and Money" and "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner"

What else would you reccomend song wise?

1. Werewolves of Bryn Mawr
Our local radio station has him doing a local version of "Werewolves of London" - he lived here on and off for years.

I've never heard it myself, but his final album is supposed to be really good.

3. I have a greatest hits
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 01:29 PM by Blue_In_AK
double CD that's pretty inclusive, but I don't see it anywhere on Amazon.com, so maybe it was just a limited release right around the time of his death. It's one of my favorites. Also, the last one he made is very good, although kind of sad because he was dying at the time.

ed. Okay, it's called "The Best of Warren Zevon - Genius" and it's not a double CD, but it does have 22 songs on it.

The other one is "The Wind"

5. second this selection-- get the best of WZ CD-- it is excellent....
I'll Sleep When I'm Dead is another best of compilation on two discs. It covers many of the same songs as the Genius CD, so I wouldn't recommend both unless you're a Zevon freak, like me.

For some live concert recordings, check http://www.archive.org/details/WarrenZevon.

Best use of the word "brocellosis" in a song lyric ever.

Course it's hard to pick from all the great songs he wrote

13. The Hindu Love Gods CD
It was a side project where he did vocals backed by the guys from REM. All covers, lots of old blues songs and oddities like Rasberry Beret

Many greatest hits are a good place to start. Sometimes it's all I get due to the amount of CDs by other artists I get. But I hope to catch up.

18. Warren Zevon people...
When I was in college, I did an internship in Washington, DC at a tv station. We had a comedian on one of our morning shows, and it just so happened that he was opening the show for Warren Zevon later that night. He asked me if I could make him a tape of his performance, and as I handed him the tape he asks me, "Hey, do you like Warren Zevon?" I'm thinking, "Is this a trick question? Does a bear shit in the woods?" I told him I loved Warren Zevon. He said, "well, since you helped me out, give me your name and I will leave two tickets for you at the box office."

So I get on the phone and call this girl I had a thing for, but she couldn't go...washing her hair or something like that. None of my other friends can go so I say, "F*ck this, I'll go by myself."

So I get to the show, I get my tickets and I'm standing in line. I hear the guys behind me telling their friend, "Don't worry, we'll get you a ticket." I turn around and ask them, "You guys need a ticket?" Their eyes light up, "Hell yes, we do!" I told them I had an extra one and that they could have it." "How much?" they asked me. "Nothing." I said. "I got it free, so you guys can have it." They must have thanked me a thousand times.

So we get into the show (at the Bayou in Georgetown)and it is general seating. I grab a seat next to these guys and before I know it, there are two beers in front of me. I look around and one of the guys says, "We are buying all of your beers tonight...don't even think about pulling out your money."

Not only that, but it was Warren Zevon with just a piano and an acoustic guitar -- no band at all. It was a great show with some great Warren Zevon people...
