It won't pull off easily.

5. You can try something to dissolve the adhesive, like Goo-Gone.
I'm sure there are other products for that purpose.

8. I have Goo Gone! It's right on the label that it removes tape. Wow.
Thanks everyone. (I was going to use Goo Gone anyway to clean up the rest of the gook on this painted windowsill,so eventually I might have figured it out - but this made it a lot quicker.

13. Goof-Off is great!
I keep a small bottle in my glovebox. It's good for tar, bug-splat on windscreens, labels, pricetags, etc etc etc.

It's also a great neurtaliser for stuff like mild glues, walpaper paste, etc; just put a few drops on your hands anfter a project, and all the sticky washes right off.

12. A Good Substitute...
... for goo-gone is "liquid paraffin" lamp oil. NOT kerosene... but the smokeless odorless colorless lamp oil that you use for oil-filled candles and old-fashioned lanterns.
