I'm staying out of GD for a while now...
I don't want WW3 to start.

I'm only 14 years old. I haven't experienced many of the things that make life grand.

I've never been mountain climbing, seen the full moon from a beach...

I at least want to get so drunk I pass out and have a bad hangover the next day... surrounded by all my friends.

It's just to damn scary to even think about. All those little things that I've never done... I've never told a guy I've loved him, I've never gotten a high score on Asteroids... I've never had any poetry published.

Jeeze....

It'd better not start.

Don't let you drown in your own vomit.

15. Exactly.
 I would even go so far as to say that real friends don't let you get so drunk that drowning in your own vomit becomes an issue. :scared:

3. I'm 15, and ready for the world to end
because when the Rapture happens, and all of us 'Murkin hatin' libruls end up in hell, we will still have this political forum, and everything else good. The only difference is that the GOP will have clouds, while we will have fire! And hopefully a trebuchet here and there.

10. "No I can't, okay wonderwoman, I can't swim."
"Well, what kind of an a$$hole lives in Seattle and doesn't even know how to swim?"
"I never got around to it, okay, I always thought there'd be plenty of time."
War Games

But you have published poetry on DU. Not alot of editorial control here, but more than a few readers.

14. MMR I just want you to relax about that
Try to imagine a peaceful world in that area. There is nothing in the world we will be able to do so just try to stay positive and pray or send love to the "hot spot". At least you will feel like you're doing something positive and it might really help.

16. Try not to tell a guy you love him
After you get drunk.

Avoid mountain climbing. If you have a bad hangover.

Celebrate life surrounded by friends and bottles of wine. After you get your poetry published.

Understand that a high score in Asteroids is highly overrated. It's not like poetry where you can immortalize the deed by maintaining a permanent record.

And when you finally see that full moon from the beach, take your time in appreciating the beauty. Listen to the rhythm of the waves crashing ashore. Inhale the salty sea breeze blowing through your hair. Take your shoes off and wallow ankle deep into the water.

And if you're with someone really special, seize that opportunity to tell him that you love him.

18. I know how you feel, sweets
Hi MMR,

Wow, your post really hit home for me--I grew up in the '70s, with the nuclear threat from the USSR hanging over our heads daily. I was completely convinced that a mushroom cloud was going to appear on the horizon any day. My friends and I had contingency plans as to what we would do when the "big one" was dropped and the sirens started going off (not only were we within spitting distance of a major factory complex useful to a war effort, but we also had a nuclear power plant within spitting distance in the other direction--we were surrounded!)

Yep, we were convinced we were doomed. And you know what happened: nothing. The USSR folded, the Berlin Wall came down, those Evil Commies were scattered like so many roaches after you set off a bug bomb (and I mean the politicians, not the Russian people).

Lesson I learned, and you will too, first hand (but I am sorry you are going through the same thing I did): No matter how dark things get, never underestimate the basic, inherent GOODNESS of the vast majority of the Earth's human race. Light will prevail. I don't know how dark it's going to have to get before it does, but LIGHT WILL PREVAIL. It always does. ALWAYS.

So plan for that moonlit beach, and the mountain climbing, and the poetry publication, and even the hangover (trust me--you do it once, and if you're smart it won't happen again--well, too many times, anyway--and if you hurl, that number of future hangovers gets cut dramatically! ummm...personal experience? who, me?)

And in the meantime, keep your head down, your spirits up, and hang about with likeminded folks...DU comes to mind! Many hugs. Hang in there!

19. It's nigh but not here yet.
Oh, I haven't done those things you've described either.

If it starts, oh well. But I doubt it. They've been at each other's necks for centuries, like poor marksmen they keep missing the jugular, and last I recall, Lebanon wants a ceasefire.
