Hilarious. Fun. Decent plot, too. Without giving away the store, I can say that the dreaded East India Company enters the scene (for all you history buffs out there). Depp hasn't lost a beat, Bloom is just as dashing as ever, and Knightley is a dream as a full-fledged pirate with trousers, tricorn, and cutlass. :loveya:
Some say the film's a bit too long. There was a little bit of fat, but not much. Didn't impede my enjoyment of the film at all.
How does Dead Man's Chest stack up against Curse of the Black Pearl, however? I'd gladly see them both over and over again, but if I was threatened with walking the plank if I didn't choose a winner, I'd have to go with Black Pearl - but it would be very, very close. Dead Man's Chest is just as smart as Black Pearl (and possibly a little smarter), but it may be a bit too manic for some folks at times, and Geoffrey Rush's Captain Barbossa from the first movie actually elicits a little more sympathy than the haunted and ruthless Davy Jones. Still, this movie is most definitely worth the price of admission. Even in New York.
Hint: Stay all the way through the credits. If you haven't done it with Black Pearl, buy or rent the DVD and watch the credits all the way through. Both are a must.
