I am so happy for you!

I hope you enjoyed the trip on the cog rail, even if you didn't make it to the top.

It was fun; but I have to say that I came out of the experience with heightened respect for those who travelled West via steam engine! :toast:

New England looks absolutely lovely... :-)

We didn't see much wildlife, but we heard a bunch of owls having a party early one morning. And as we were leaving my friend's house in the Berkshires, we saw a wild turkey. :hi:

may i ask where you came from? how did you like the trip?

We drove to New Hampshire on Saturday, and stayed until Monday. After a little more driving around on Monday morning, we headed for a friend's house in the Berkshires, and spent the night. We saw the local parade and had some lunch before going home, taking a westerly route to avoid I95. I loved the trip, but I would have liked to spend more time there. Maybe next year. :-)

Son ofGoG had a blast! We gave him a camera for his birthday last week, so he was taking pictures like crazy. :-)

Visit Vermont. It's classic New England. Small towns with a commons lined with maples, white spired churches, granite gothic town halls, perfectly groomed farms with emerald green pastures dotted with black and white Holsteins and in the fall during foliage - takes your breath away.

We took Route 9 in the southern part of the state, and drove through some lovely towns. I love the gumption of the people...their willingness to speak out against Dumbyass. They have my utmost respect!

If you want the truth with the bark off, ask an old lady, a five year old or a Vermonter.

The next time you're here, do hike all the Flume. It's a primal landscape. And check out the film at the Vistor's Center; it'll put you in the mood.

my parents live about an hour north and west of Bangor, where I also grew up. I love Maine but NOT where I am from. southern maine and the coast is GREAT!

Yes the coast is excellent but I'll put in a plug for the Interior.

In fact when most people think about the White Mtns they automatically assume NH but the portion of the WMNF in Western Maine is a treasure largely because it is less visited. caribou-Speckled Wilderness area in particular.

And of course Baxter State park surronding the Katahdin area is also spectacular just cross old Pamola.

But I should probably wash my clothes with DEET first...

We stayed in a B&B that also operates a decent brewpub. They had a nice tart raspberry wheat...better than any I've tried thus far.

That's in an age when there weren't many political ones -- maybe because in those days, stickets were so TOUGH TO REMOVE???

There was also an ALTERNATE sticker that said, "THIS CAR COULDN'T CLIMB MT. WASHINGTON -- BUT I DID!"

I was also in the Whites this weekend. I go there quite often.

I'd like to find some easy trails for us to start with the next time we go.

I went swimming at Lower Falls off the Kangamangus Highway. It's nice cool water, but not too cold.

If I remember right, Lonesome Lake Trail may be an easier, shorter trail. When you get up there there you can swim in the lake. Or you can climb more trails to the top of Cannon MT. if you wish. Here are some links.

I love New England. I think even if I had all the money in the world I would always live here.

I'd just need to figure out how to make a living. I think I could, with a few changes and a little innovative thinking. But it would be risky uprooting when I have an established career as a freelancer here.
