And Scott LaFaro just goes on, and on, and on, and on...
Some crazy, crazy shit going down! Gotta love Bill Evans--Paul Motian--Scott LaFaro (SUNDAY AT THE VILLAGE VANGUARD, from 1961).

Oh, and did I mention that LaFaro died 10 days after this was recorded at the Vanguard?

:)

1. WIMR you have just made my day. These are some of my favorite
recordings, of any type, EVER.

And you are already plugged into it at such a young age!

4. I think "Detour Ahead" is my favorite.
I can always listen to "My Romance" or "Waltz for Debby" though.

6. I'm listening to "All of You" right now.
The re-release of SATVV included an extra take of four of the six tracks, meaning that the CD grew from 6 tracks to 10.

5. Truly inspirational stuff.
And on the car crash note--it says in the liner notes for SATVV that Orrin Keepnews asked Bill to write a bit for the liner notes about LaFaro, and he just couldn't. Brilliant Evans, unable to write anything about the death of one of his greatest playing companions--that just shows what an impact the young bassist had, both in life and in death.

13. My cousin knew LaFaro...
...Rick--the cousin--always said he was the best bassist he ever heard...they were young musicians who ran in the same circles, though Scotty was older...he really liked him, too. Those recordings are tough for me to listen to sometimes... By the way--have you ever heard Clifford Brown's "The Beginning and the End", recorded the night before his car crash? That's another poignant record...

8. $177.79 for Bill Evans?
Fuck, for his genius, that's like a steal!

Unfortunately, the non-jazzer parents wouldn't exactly buy that gimmick. :D
