Senior Class Trip To Winery Gets Two High Schoolers In Trouble
<snip>

DRUMMOND, Mont. -- Two Montana high school athletes have lost some sports privileges after tasting wine at a Washington state winery during a senior class trip. Their chaperones included the chairman of the school board.

Drummond school officials would not talk about the senior class outing.

A former school board member said the board didn't approve the stop at the winery, and parents said they weren't told about it.

The parents of the disciplined athletes want to know why the chaperones aren't being held accountable.

Chase Reynolds and Cody Alt, both 18, allegedly accepted a complimentary taste of wine during the trip. The seniors' punishment cost them a chance to compete in some events at the district track meet, and any meets beyond that.

Both seniors also lost playing privileges in an all-star football game, and Reynolds says he was removed from his running back spot on the West team in next month's Shrine Bowl.

1. Holy shit! I say mercy to the kids; shitstorm the chaperones.
What the hell were they thinking?

So the chaperones take them some place that they have no business taking them to, and then punish the athletes.

While I'm all for punishing athletes and not letting them get away their bullshit, I think this case is totally worth giving the athletes clemency, and punishing severely the chaperones.

I mean, Jesus. What're they thinkin'?

3. Punishing kids for being used by chaperons - bad.
Then again... there is a budding movement to get some vineyards going up here in Montana. FFA and other such groups might actually have legitimate reasons to get the kids interested in grapes. ;)

Hay and wheat doesn't provide the per acre income that grapes do.

2. If you take kids to a crack factory, and they sample the crack.
Who's to blame? The kids are old enough to say no. But, on the other hand, what do the chaperones expect at a winery? grape juice testing? :eyes:

In other news, my high school art class went to Art Galleries near Pioneer Square on several occassions. Many offered free wine.
