Good Friday Morning, Crew!

Welcome to the Friday edition of the Early Morning Crew thread! :bounce: How are you this morning? I hope you had a good day yesterday. And here we are at Friday! :woohoo: Get through this work shift and the weekend will be upon us! I hope you have some nice relaxing plans for the upcoming two days off. That is...if you HAVE them off.

I've been working a little on the genealogy of my family the past couple of days. Have you ever done this? It's quite fascinating when you get into it, to see how far back your family tree goes. So far, I've gotten back to the year 1616 when one of my ancestors was born in Sedgley, Staffordshire, England! And I still have a ways to go. Like I said...it's quite fascinating!

So, are you ready to get this day started so it can get over with that much quicker? Me too! Time to rise and shine, my crew! :bounce:

The group has never been the most active of places - one wouldn't really expect it to be - but has tailed off recently...it's one of those things where there doesn't quite seem to be the critical-mass to keep things going. Such is life I suppose.

I found you can get pretty close. It's fun to play with it on a digital camera b/c it doesn't cost anything. When you come, I'll let you play with one of my digital cameras. Hopefully, we'll still have something worth taking close-up pictures of. :D

124. That would be really sweet of you
here is the zoom I used

AF 70-300mm F/4-5,6 LD MACRO 1:2

This is the definitive lightweight, compact telephoto macro zoom with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at the 300mm setting -- ideal for shooting subjects that are difficult to approach such as sporting and theatrical events. The lens also features special effects such as the capability to provide beautifully blurred backgrounds to highlight the main subject in protraiture, or "compression effects" that make the most of the telephoto lens. By switching to maco mode, subjects as close as 0.95m can be shot within the focal range of 180-300mm, for true macro photography. The optical system incorporates a LD (Low Dispersion) lens, resulting in clear sharp images free of chromatic aberration.

139. Yes, I do.
Harleydad has some nice lenses and he wants a digital body to put them on. So I'm saving up my money and will get him one for our anniversary. Joani has the one he really wants, but there's a smaller one with fewer bells and whistles that I might actually be able to afford. He stopped taking pictures because it got so expensive to develop the film (he took a LOT of pictures).

142. Make sure
the camera supports the analogue zooms. I am not sure how that works. I can understand him. Getting the pics developed ... oh boy. And I take a lot of pics too when I go out with the intention to shoot pictures.

152. They do.
There are two sets of arrows where you fit the lenses. One is for the analog zooms and one is for the digital ones. He took a good look at Joani's. I would think they'd have a harder time selling them if people had to go out and buy new lenses all the time.

You have to shoot a lot of pictures if you want to get the perfect one. Harleydad always teases me about "wasting film" when I take pictures, even though I'm using a digital camera. I love being able to take thousands of pics and just deleting the bad ones. :D

16. Good morning Clint.
:hi:

Staffs is it? My maternal family is pretty much all from Yorkshire - my grandfather has traced back quite some way, I'm not quite sure how far. My paternal family is also Yorkshire more recently, but before that mostly Lincolnshire - my father had a brief go looking into that and got back to the 18th century.

That's as far as I've gone so far. No TELLING what I'm going to find as I progress with this. I've also found, on my grandfathers side, a woman, last name Taliaferro born in the year 1700 in Scotland. I've hit a rather dead end with her though. I'll have to keep looking. How are YOU today, Sir?

59. I'm doing very well indeed.
:D

Family history is utterly fascinating - the Scots side is to be expected, given that you're from the South. I read a short paper once which argued that the tradition of "spirituals" actually arose from the Gaelic metrical psalm singing from Scotland - taken over with the whites who became the slave-owners. Extraordinary how population movements and cultures impact on each other.

I could talk to you all day about this genealogy stuff! My great grandmother on my fathers side was a full Cherokee indian. The native Americans didn't keep records on familys like the whites did, so I have NO chance to find much about her.

Yes, MrG has done a lot of genealogy on his family. His family has been traced back to a passenger on the Earl of Donegal in 1767 to South Carolina. They were from County Antrim.

I've wanted to do harleydad's geneology since it's more interesting than mine (we already know who his ancestors are, but we don't know the in-betweens). Since you know how do to it, perhaps I could bother you for some tips. Did you have to pay for one of those geneology search places?

Yeah, I'm getting settled in. We have a lot of boxes we're not unpacking until we get into the new house. But just about everything we wanted to unpack here is unpacked. I'm sitting in the dining room and it's looking pretty bare with the empty china and curio cabinets, so I might unpack a few figurines or something, just to make it look a little less like a furniture store.

I got bit by a bug yesterday. Don't know what it was, but I saved it in case my finger falls off. I was sitting on the deck minding my own business, talking with harleydad, and something got on my neck. When I brushed it off, it bit my finger -- felt like a hot poker going in there! I killed it and collected it in a bag to show the neighbors. Get this ... they've lived here all their lives and not ONE of them has ever seen a bug like this one. :scared: But they all said not to worry if my finger wasn't getting hot or swelling up. It didn't do that, but I can still see the hole it made. :scared: I thought all the big scary bugs were in FL.

Its legs are all folded up, so it's hard to count. My initial thought was that it was a spider but I'm not seeing enough legs. And it has a long skinny antenna ... but I only see one. Maybe some parts fell off when I slapped it. I don't see anything that looks like wings, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a flying insect.

But I'm looking at spiders first. I'm more curious than anything else at this point since there doesn't seem to be any real harm done. One thing that scares the crap out of me, though, is that my dad was bit by a bott fly once ... and a bott fly larvae crawled out of the wound some time later. :puke: But his bite swelled up and got nasty. So we won't think of such things. :scared:

132. It might have.
The butt looked like the jumping spider on this page. But I don't see the long antenna on the jumping spider.

Do I want to know what this bug is?

I'm not getting a lot of help from google, so I'm sure I'm not looking for the right thing.

I'm going to get some of these:

That'll show 'em!

143. All is splendid here, now.
Just had a long argument with Mildred (my computer) who decided to stop paying attention and lost the wireless network...:eyes: she can be a temperamental thing at times...but all good now.

Especially as I'm sitting chatting with such a stunningly gorgeous man.

122. Good Morning!
There were two Friday morning threads. I was all confused. My sister graduated HS. It was hot and long and no one could hear anything. Possibly because there was an annoying woman directly in front of us with a fucking fog horn. One would think she would stop with the fog horn after being called an asshole by about twenty people (including my former French teacher...good to see she's not deported anymore).

Oh and the cops were wearing bulletproof vests. Why I don't know, since nothing ever happens in Rockaway Boro. I'm pretty sure the last time anyone got shot was a dumb hunting accident or gun cleaning thing.

123. Fl check-in
After a few nights of kitty wanting to chat at 2:20 AM, hubbie decided to shut the br door. Well, you have a cat, and I've had cats before, so WE KNOW what's going to happen (but who am I to say?). Sure enough, it's NONSTOP meowing, door scratching and tackling, and various mystery noises. A 2:30 chat would have been relaxing in comparison. Wonder what we'll do tonight?
