Share you dislike of summer here
I dislike summer because in St Louis it means three to four LONG months of hot and humid weather

Too many people wear too little clothing...my motto is just because they make in your size does not mean it belongs on your body (and I am not a tiny person).

The ONE thing I do like about summer is that it is far more fun to ride my scooter even when it's 90 than when it's 20 but that's about it and if I get heated grips this winter my one reason for liking summer will have been eliminated.

2. Yes, I've long said that if I had the money I'd
spend SUMMER elsewhere and stay in STL during the winter. Of course if I had that kind of money then I'd probably be able to afford to live in a more friendly climate year round, say SAN FRANCISCO?

Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 08:20 PM by QuestionAll
it always happens in chicago that we're supposed to be getting rain...they show it on radar- it's coming...!
but- then the clouds all just dissipate before we get any of it in the city.

However- we don't have a water meter, so i can run the sprinklers all night long without worrying about increasing the bill.

I mean, nothing :D

One time I was taking the NJ transit to visit relatives in Bergenfield, when this big Texan woman and her big kid were goofing around the line. She left her purse and all her bags in the middle of the station unattended. It was 11 PM. I told her that she might want to hang onto her purse-- she told me to mind my own business :eyes:

Fine. See if I care when your purse is lifted..

28. The library was packed?
:wtf:

That is really odd, but not totally surprising, I guess.

I know someone who lives in Kennebunk, and she says that EVERYTHING is overrun in the summer, which I definitely believe.

A few years ago, my mom and I were driving down to York to go see her cousin's new house. Well, it was Labor Day weekend, and the Turnpike/I-95 (I can't remember which one we were on!) was so clogged that we were making horrible time. My mom got really fed up, and decided to get off it and drive on town/city streets--in fucking Kennebunkport.

:wow:

Needless to say, that was one of the stupidest things I think she's ever done in a car. I thought the highway was bad--the 'Port and then Kennebunk itself were BUMPER TO BUMPER traffic. We were down there for about 45 minutes, and not really because my mom was trying to "tough it out" or anything--we could not get back onto the highway. When we finally did get out of that hellhole, my mom realized after a few minutes that we were NORTHBOUND, not southbound. She took that as a sign, and just kept driving right on home. To this day, I still have not seen the cousin's house in York.

Talk about traffic idiocy, though! And from a lifelong Mainer!

It's impossible to drive around there in the summer:( I'm going to the Colony for the 4th,and I'm sure it will be sheer hell also.
I couldn't believe that the library was packed, either. I guess people who have summer homes can check out books there, and they do have free paperbacks. Most of the people were probably just browsing around waiting to use the computers. They always have long lines for that in the summer. That library is so small, though, that isn't doesn't take many people to pack it. I grabbed some books and was out of there in under 10 minutes.

All over the place. Can't step outside without being swarmed by anklebiters and their parents, obviously exhausted to the point that they don't care if their rugrat is screaming at the top of his lungs because no, you can't have ice cream because you already had a big cookie so go bother that man that's minding his own business and reading the paper.

And teenagers. With drivers licences. And all the time in the world on their hands. Feel free to drive like an ass, yapping on your cell phone with your seat rocked so far back all anybody can see is the top of your head because, hey, you should enjoy your youth as much as possible considering in twenty years you're going to be wearing a hearing aid because the only way to listen to Nickleback is at a volume so high that the lameass spoiler you have on your hoopty Civic is in danger of rattling right off.

16. I hate, hate, hate summer.
It means going from your air-conditioned home to your air-conditioned car to your air-conditioned office. And for at least three months, you cannot breathe air that is not stiflingly hot. I am not a summertime lover. I lived in South Florida most of my life in year-round summer heat. I moved to North Georgia in 1989 and it was the first time that I ever experienced four seasons.

17. Bummertime--
Mo-friggin-squitos.

It's not the heat, it's the hum-diddy (monotonous, perpetually oily sweatiness, so unending it becomes hum-drum. Hum-diddy.)

I don't tan--I shrivel and flake (blue-eyed, freckled redhead, here).

Pooling sweat in bra and sandals.

Sitting in a car for that endless, stifling bit before the a.c. does any noticeable good.

Trying to find a pair of shorts that are not a) up my rear and not afraid to show all or b)baggy-ass knee-length dorkwear. There seems to be no in-between.

Aggressive commercial conspicuous a.c. consumption--the experience of going to any mall which seems to have the thermostat set at fifty. If you've acclimated to 90 degrees and are sweaty, BRRRR!

My lawn. That all I can really say about it.

Otherwise, I love it. No snow. And I like how my office's dress code seems to relax to where my mini-skirt and tank-top become acceptable.

18. Early summer heat is anywhere from 100-110 here
Then it gets really hot, say from 110-125. Every day. Fortunately for me, some of that time I'm out of the country on vacation, but when I'm home it's too much. This heat makes you crave water, sugar and sleep, and nothing else. The kids can't play outside until evening, when it's only in the high 90's, which is a challenge in itself.

24. Get behind me Satan, LOL!
Fall or Spring is probably my favorite because of the heat, but I can deal with summer with air conditioning/showers. And I don't have to get dressed like the Stay Puft Marshmallow to run out and get the mail. And it doesn't get dark at 4L30 in the afternoon. I can drive around without worrying if it's icy/snowy. I can enjoy the outdoors without feeling like my face is going to fall off.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe people hate summer!

I hate people wearing too little clothing (and no I'm not willing to overlook the ones who SHOULDN'T be wearing too little clothing simply to enjoy the sight of those who can get away with it).
I hate the slap-slapping sound of flip flops all over the damn place.
I hate people thinking that the first bit of warm weather and the months that follow mean that we all want to see their nasty assed feet in sandals.
I hate people telling me "Oh, it's so nice out.....you should go outside more."
I hate yardwork.
I hate watering my lawn.
I hate having to mow my lawn.
I hate electric bills from air conditioners running.
I hate pollen and allergies.
I hate bugs.
I hate having to get into hot cars.

The humidity is awful. I went to Phoenix last summer, and even though it was 110 degrees out there, I felt more comfortable than I did here.

Add to that highway constuction everywhere, plus my job, which is outdoors (7 hours tonight...:banghead:), and it gets pretty fucking miserable. Plus, thanks to aforementioned job, I have two massive blisters on the back of one heel, so that, so that makes work all the less fun.

The only consolation is that I'm not stuck in my crappy college town loaded down with 18 credits.

33. I'm with ya....
... here in Dallas, summer is easily my least favorite season. From about 11AM until 7PM, you can forget doing anything outside. It is so hot the devil is looking for some shade.

Spring here is great. Fall is magnificent, although not as beautiful as the NE, the weather is fine. Winters are mild, maybe 2 weeks of real cold the whole time.

But summer is day after day of scorching, sweating, greasy-sunscreen heat, and there are 3 months of it left :)

41. Summer in North Central Texas
Summer in North Central Texas-- hot, humid, sticky, miserable and just plain nasty. Augusts are the worst-- a high pressure system sitting right on top of us, preventing rain and even the most minor of healing breezes from reaching us.

Most nights, the temp won't get below 92 degrees which gives the ground no time to "cool" meaning that our A/C's are on 24/7. The elec. bill for my pitiable 700 sq. ft. apt. (w/ decent insulation and weather protection) will run about $150-$165 that month. Blech... and blech, again.

Bright side? Ummm... can't really think of any.
