Who was the last famous person you met?
Turns out my new brother-in-law's brother-in-law's father is Rod Laver the big shot tennis player (only fella to win the grand slam twice I discovered from a quick internet research project I conducted). So anyway, I went to his house for a father's day barbeque this weekend and me and my dad beat his and his son's asses at pool. Really nice guy.

She is one of my all-time biggest heroes (heroines). It was about four years ago in an animal law forum at Harvard. Steven Wise and Alan Dershowitz and a few other big AR legal-types were there. She was quite popular and I had only a few moments with her. We spoke, of course, about animal law. What a gracious, wise, kind, courageous, intelligent, compassionate, down-to-earth woman. I felt, god, so unworthy in her presence.

37. Kurt Vonnegut ...

A couple years ago he gave a presentation in OKC, and I got to meet and speak with him afterward. The man oozes intelligence.

That's not really the last famous person I met, but it depends on the level of celebrity we're talking about here. Because of a person I know, I've actually run into Toby Keith a few times more recently. He's not as bad as most people around these parts think, but he doesn't even approach the level of Vonnegut in my mind.

Also, when I was at Staples last year, I could have sworn I saw Brian George in my aisle. He's most famous for playing Babu Bhatt on "Seinfeld." But before I could ask, he was already gone.

76. Sonny Perdue (R-GA governor)
:puke: He was at a BBQ organized by some of my business colleagues. I had to be polite and bite my tongue. The BBQ was one big Republican, good old boy mutual masturbation event complete with many Republicans running for state and local offices. I was sort of an undercover Democrat. I listened and eavesdropped on the opposition.

I met him met him when he first running for office. He asked for my vote and I told him that I had never and would never vote for a Republican. He said "I'm more of a populist." I thought , yeah, Lester Maddox was a populist. :puke:

I met him last year and got him to sign a copy of his book for me and pose for a photo. I don't think I've met anyone famous since then

82. Bill and Hillary, separately.
Famous folks are much more plentiful on the West Coast than around these parts.

Saw many out there.

83. Al Gore, I talked to him for a few minutes last Thursday,
then I participated in a small group with him to discuss documentary filmmaking, then we went to a reception he was hosting and spent a few hours bumping into each other and chatting small talk.

He is smart, funny, focused and at ease with himself. He begged off everyone asked him to run. I think he is having a lot of fun right now.

100. You didn't meet a clebrity--you met a legend.
I would love to meet her probably more than anyone else I can think of.

My boss is leaving for the American Library association conference in NOLA tomorrow, don't know if Helen will be there, but I asked my boss to please get her autograph or a pic if so!

86. Stephen Harper
Our new prime minister. Met him at a book fair last weekend. He was rather cold and distant, but his wife and kids were very warm and friendly. His wife Laureen actually asked me if I would be interested in fostering a cat from the Humane Society! Even though they are conservatives, they seemed like decent and down to earth people.

89. I shook hands with John Kerry... also see some basketball players
around campus. Like Channing Frye, Andre Igoudala, Luke Walton and guys like that when they were at the U of A. Had a class with Salim Stoudamire. Knew a couple football players too, I think Andre' Thurman plays wide reciever for somebody in the NFL right now. He isn't exactly famous though.

91. Dick Van Dyke yesterday, Jamie Foxx today
Yesterday Dick was shooting a TV movie where I work and Jamie Foxx is a member I've met several times. (It's a large fitness facility)

I meet lots of celebs, but I still get tickled sometimes, especially when I meet people my grandmother really loved (like Dick Van Dyke).

Had dinner with Peter Yarrow (PP&M) a couple of times some yrs. ago and bumped into Carville at Heathrow Airport in the mid 90's.

Peter is a good friend of a friend. He's a most charming, wonderful person....kissed me smack on the lips too.

Shook Carville hand.

101. Bill Frisell. I was doing the dishes one day...
and looked out my window to the street below, and there he was talking to his drummer. I went down and shook his hand and told him how I'd been a fan from his sideman days back in the late Seventies or early Eighties. I was giddy as a schoolgirl.

Oh, I used to live across the street from the Tracktor Tavern in Seattle. Frisell plays there a lot.

102. I tended bar for years and saw some famous people
George Clooney, Ashley Judd (actually better looking in person), Harry Shearer some others. I actually talked a little bit with Eric Burdon (the Animals) and Rudy Tomjanovich but have never really met anyone famous. Except maybe Walker Percy, who was friends with my dad.
