Some smokers just astound me...
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 06:42 PM by YellowRubberDuckie
And no this isn't flamebait.
Tonight I was sitting in my car for a few minutes on my phone after I pulled into my spot in the parking garage. Around the corner comes this idiot in a mustang convertable, chatting on her cell phone, smoking a cigarette. Before she cuts around the corner to come park beside me a couple spots over, she throws the cigarette out, still glowing. IN A PARKING GARAGE. Which is on the first three levels of a 24 story apartment building. Does she not understand that she's not the only person that lives here? Does she not care that someone who doesn't make near enough money has to clean up after her shit? Sure she pays rent, but that does not give her the right to treat our home as an ashtray.
People flip out when others litter, why do those same people think it's ok to flick a cigarette all over the place? Fucking pisses me off. :grr:

To help out:

It is possible to ignite a pool of gasoline using only a cigarette: Partly Plausible

A cigarette has the potential to light a pool of gasoline but just doesn't have enough sustained heat. Gas ignites between 500 °F and 540 °F, the cigarette at its hottest was between 450 °F and 500 °F but only when it was actually being smoked. An ignition is very improbable.

4. Now as everybody knows, smoking is ungodly and immoral.

People are stupid. Even self-absorbed as I can be, I put things in their proper place and am nice to people in public. Most people in public don't care about their effect on others and resort to doing things as you said, hogging grocery store aisles, and much more...

It's a funny ol' world.

9. I completely agree with you.
I hate inconsiderate people in general....but some of these smokers are the worst. Like I can't go into the mall without gagging because there are people gathered around the entrances on the lower level, despite the 25 feet from the door law that went into effect that no one fucking wants to enforce. :grr:

5. I'm with you
any littering annoys me, but damn, those cigarette butts really do not magically disappear just cuz they're not piling up in yer ashtray. And a lit butt in a parking garage, perhaps rolling under a car that happens to have a leak.......?

6. So, she'll put smoke into her lungs, but not keep the butt in her car?
What, your lungs are less important than your car? That's intelligent.

We won't even get into how stupid it is to toss a butt out of your car when it's hot, dry and windy...

26. I am a smoker and always use my car ashtray,
so I am not guilty of littering. In fact, I am very careful about throwing any cigarette butts on the road, mainly because if a police officer sees it, you could be fined for littering.

Littering would only be the beginning of your problems.

Consider this: people who start fires here, even accidentally, are liable for the cost of putting it out.

On edit: The Oakland Hills fire (shown) did 1.7 BILLION in damages.

34. As a smoker...
people like that annoy me. I try to respect other peoples stuff and do my best to not have other people breathing the toxins I am. I really wish though that non-smokers and governemnt agencies would relize that people who smoke are addicted and not going to give it up (in general), so they need to allow smoking "inside" buildings in the form of smoking areas that are essentially air-tight with air circulating from the outside and venting to someplace convenient.

38. I'm a smoker, and I don't agree with that
I don't want to go back to smoking inside because it would lead to more complaining. If the smoke itself isn't bothering them, the Smoke Nazis will find other things, and in your scenario they'd bitch about "preferential treatment" — and I couldn't disagree with them. I also don't want businesses to have to incur that expense.

All I want are reasonably comfortable places to smoke outside — away from entrances, but with some shield from inclement weather and with ash trays, for chrissakes.

This is not a smoking issue - it's about idiocy. Smoking, driving, on her cell? Idiocy.

Nothing to do with smoking, everything to do with being a idiot.

Some of us smokers (knowing it offends people) try very hard to be polite and do the best we can. I'd like a little credit. It's not really a smoking issue, it's a selfishness issue....

Khash.
