1. Kicking off now doesn't seem that much of a spoiler ...
unless we weren't supposed to know they did that.

4. This is meant to be a thread for those to comment as it happens
However some would rather not know the score until they see the match time delayed.

7. It is for me--I was expecting an opening tip-off, a la The Big Dance
That's the game with the hoop, right?

5. France
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 11:05 AM by Kellanved
They have great players with a lot of experience.

But Switzerland played an outstanding qualification (among others- against France), so they might be good for a surprise.

9. cautiously optimistic
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 11:11 AM by Kellanved
The usual hype and euphoria, but they're not really seen as having a chance when things continue like expected.

There's the glimmer of hope that Germany wasn't even close to being the best team in 54, 74 and arguably '90 and won anyway.

6. France are the favourites
They were the 1998 World Champions and 2000 European Champions. They're one of the teams who have a fair prospect of winning the tournament.

Switzerland are very much the underdogs.

10. France's finishing is poor
They're dominating the midfield, but they're squandering chances at goal. Switzerland were unlucky early on with hitting the post.

12. He's missed one great chance
He seems very subdued, and may be struggling in the heat.

16. You don't beat Brazil in a WC final and get away with it.
You become cursed forever. See where Uruguay is now.

24. Switzerland are cowards
to play a cynical nil game like that against a team that is reeling is inane. Take it to them and drive the stake in, don't sit back and play a shell game. Assholes.

Neither team deserves to advance, and only one will, probably. Think of this compared to the spirit that South Korea and Togo showed. assholes.
