Death in the garden - graphic dial up warning.

The first sunflower to bloom has given up:

Here is where the stalk gave up:

The path the pest took can be seen here near the soil:

I think this is where the pest (I suspect the sunflower stem weevil) entered the plant:

I'm wondering if the bumps on the stem indicate the presence of pests:

The insides of the stem clearly show the damage:

I hope the rest of my sunflowers survive:

:scared:

8. Yes, it was going well.
I've posted this in the gardening forum, hoping for
suggestions to prevent it spreading to the others.

Thanks, Joan

9. Take a sample of the damaged stalk, roots, etc.

to your nearest nursery and ask them what you can do
to prevent this from spreading.

I always ask if they can recommend something that is earth-friendly.
i.e. not so damn toxic and unsafe to use around pets.

They might be able to help you.

Good Luck!!

10. A suggestion from the gardening forum is
diatomaceous earth.

I'm going to try that first.

Thanks, Kajsa.
