There is an old joke in upstate New York how the city got its name. One day a settler who had just come up the long path from Albany accidentally ran into some Mohawks who were hunting.
He was obviously trespassing and so he was asked by the tribe members what he was doing on their land? He told him that some day he wanted to build a giant "long house" there, but didn't know what to name it.. The Native American rubbed his chin and said.." I have name for you...it has to do with what could happen to you if Iroquois would have found you...today insted of us? " "What?" said the settler shaking in his boots..." The Mohawk looked at him and smiled. Placing a thumb across his throat, He said "Skin Neck To day!" .
