1. I'm going to try.
I haven't seen a movie in the theater since Fahrenheit 9/11.

4. I went to see it today...
Mr. LD loved it. I however, may be called 'unamerican' for my response: I slept through most of it... I kept looking for a plot line of some sort, but was left in the lurch. And I LOVE, absolutely LOVE anything Robert Altman sets his hand to!

9. I'm sorry to say it, but no...

I will listen to it if Mr. LD has it on, but generally my mind wanders... (don't know what that says about me- wait, don't answer that) So, I knew going into the movie that I may not enjoy it as much as Mr. LD, who absolutely LOVES PHC (and loved this movie!). I will say that Meryl Streep's performance was fabulous, as was Lily Tomlin's. They are great as sisters. I understand that Mr. Altman encouraged a lot of improvisation in their performances. They really played off one another very well. I think that Kevin Kline's performance as Guy Noir was largely a waste of time. He came across as a bumbling, accident-prone twit. They also cast Virginia Madsen as an angel. It remained a mystery to me, why some people would see her clearly and others would not. Then later on, those who had not seen her earlier would then see her later. That was kind of an odd part of the movie.

But those are just my opinions, and I'm sure that most people who go to see the movie, are already big fans of PHC, and will absolutely love it. I'm also sure, that come Oscars 2008, there will be several nominations in store for it!

10. most movie goers are not PHC fans
I was interested in how the movie would play with non-PHC fans. I wonder if many people will think that the PHC radio show is a small hit (or a struggling failure, like the show in the movie).

I best thing about PHC is going to see the show in real life. Unlike a Grateful Dead concert, you are allowed to bring whatever you want into the concert area (when the show is outdoors). When I go I usually bring wine and cheese, chips and guacamole, and sandwiches.

Thanks for the input on the movie.

11. I think also, what the movie is lacking, are the stories that are
such a part of the radio broadcast. They tell stories with characters with interesting voices and quirks. That is totally missing in the movie. They sing songs, but there aren't any of the wonderful stories that Guy Noir is a part of, or that Garrison Keillor is so famous for. They just sing. I don't know if they thought that the movie itself would be a substitute for the stories, but to me, the stories are the most wonderful part of the PHC broadcast.

The audience demographic was mainly over 40. We went at 4:30pm on a Friday afternoon. You could definitely tell as people went to the ticket window, which movie they were going to go to! We were a part of that demographic.

19. The lady in white was an angel
and I suspect that those that could see her were near the end of their lives, or where able to recognize death.

5. As much as Garrison Keillor bugs - with that cast, HELL, YEAH!
Can't wait.

7. I saw it and gave it a B+. Formal review was never posted, but if
you like "Prairie Home Companion" and Garrison Keeler's characters, you will probably enjoy this movie.

I volunteer at a PBS station and have grown fond of his work.

My husband didn't know who he was and therefore probably got less out of the movie than I did.

Enjoy! Let us know what you thought.

In peace,

Radio_Lady in Oregon (movie reviewer for the past three decades or so!)

It was great! Very moving, very smart. Dry humor, but humor none the less... If you like PHC, you must see this flic!
