UPDATE regarding the tests I've undergone......Today.......

My dear friends.....Well, the picture is not altogether clear as of today...

I went for a repeat mammogram, and a new ultrasound of my right breast...

The results? Inconclusive, alas......The doctor would not allow himself to be pinned down as to what it all means....

And I was too intimidated to push him, unfortunately.....

However, the tech was more open with me, and I was more comfortable talking to her.

She felt that probably the leakage is from something not too serious...NOT a cancer.....

I will undergo (maybe next week, I hope) a ductogram. Hopefully then I will have the healthy closure I seek.....

So I am not entirely happy tonight.....I need a hug.......

My mother and I always say "Don't start worrying unless you have something for sure to worry about."

I had really big lump (benign fibroid) in my breast when I was 17 (and again at 25) and didn't know for two or three days that it was more than likely benign. That was a rough weekend. My mom had to be sedated. I had the lumpectomy and everything was fine. A few years later, the same senario with the other breast.

I now have matching scars. :silly:

...I've gone thru this the past couple of months with my Mom. She had a lump in one of her breast, and they did a biopsy, and it was cancerous. They were able to take the lump out, without removing her breast, but she has had to get some radiation treatments.

Of course, you can ask! A ductogram is a specialized mammogram.

Several things happen:

First, I must express some of the fluid so that the tech can see just where the duct is....

Then they find the duct and inject via the nipple some radiopaque dye....

The dye fills the duct, and then they do another mammogram.....

That's all I know.....Hopefully that procedure will bring the info needed for a definitive diagnosis....

when you originally posted, someone posted a link to a common breast problem type website and one of the things it mentioned as likely to be a cause of leakage sounded not that great but not horrible either - some kind of duct growth, I don't remember the exact terminology, but go back and check that out, I think it may help.

Don't be intimidated by your doc. PIN HIM DOWN, MAKE HIM ANSWER YOU! It is your life not his/hers! Keep in mind all he did was graduate from college. That's it! I hold people with Ph D's Mathematics or Physics in higher regard, they had to push the boundaries of human knowledge in tough fields, your doctor scored high in his SAT's and got in to a med school after his undergrad studies. A fine accomplishment but that does not make him godlike, or unaccountable to you in anyway. He works for you, if he can't get that in his head maybe you should consider changing doctors.

I, too, had a leakage that was a mystery. They couldn't do a ductogram because I could not pinpoint exactly where the leakage came from on the nip, so they decided to do the mammogram and take a wait and see path. It never happened again, luckily, and the mamm was clear. They put me on an every 6 month routine for mammograms for 2 years.

I am so sorry you have to go thru this!
