2. "Capote"
Great story, great script, great direction, great cast. It's a little on the draining side, though, so if you're looking for light hearted stuff, go elsewhere.

11. When you're in pain, its hard to follow story lines...
so I would suggest anything by Laurel & Hardy. Silent or Talkie, you will all be sick from laughing. I'm recovering from back trouble myself, and my family did this for me. Laughter is the best medicine, but pain (and pain medication) really makes it hard to follow most movies. Same goes for Harold Lloyd. Try it, you'll like it!

19. Yea, pain really changes your ability to concentrate on dialog,
and subtle humor. So, if you really want to take your dad's mind off the pain and trouble, pop in a Charlie Chaplin, or Harold LLoyd, or Laurel & Hardy. I promise you, everyone will love it. By the way, these people were WAY before my time. You don't have to be 80 to love them.

16. The Dish
If your Bbuster has a good selection of older movies. This is an overlooked gem.

Plot Summary
Actors: Sam Neill, Kevin Harrington, Tom Long, Patrick Warburton, Genevieve Mooy

Genres: Comedy
Tagline: As Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, our only link was a satellite dish in rural Australia with a few bugs (And a few hundred sheep).

Plot Synopsis: In the days before the July 19, 1969 space mission that marked humankind's first steps on the moon, NASA was working with a group of Australian technicians who had agreed to rig up a satellite interface. That the Aussies placed the satellite dish smack dab in the middle of an Australian sheep farm in the boondocks town of Parkes was just one of the reasons that NASA was concerned. Based on a true story, The Dish takes a smart, witty, comical look at the differing cultural attitudes between Australia and the U.S. while revisiting one of the greatest events in history.

33. I provide descriptions here, they should be in documentary
Let me say that I have bought both of these movies at least 4 times, Absolut Warhola, I gave
out as Christmas gifts, it is a very visual movie and you will have no trouble following it.
Wild Wheels, I have bought at least 4 times but do not own because people keep borrowing it
and not returning it.

Absolut Warhola
Located somewhere in the middle of nowhere, in the "Ruthenian Bermuda Triangle" between Slovakia, Poland and the Ukraine, is Europe's only Pop Art Museum. Stanislaw Mucha's light-hearted documentary traces the roots of America's pop-icon Andy Warhol, whose family heritage can be tracked down to the town of Medzilaborce and the neighboring village of Miková. His clan has always lived here, and they always will. His aunts and cousins have lots of time, they have schnapps, they are out of work, and they have each other, but each of them also has a vague idea of Warhol: His name has become a legend, a vision, a tangible link to a world they cannot comprehend, a world so big and so incredibly far away

Wild Wheels
They say driving is a privilege, not a right. If you haven't seen this film, driving is neither privilege nor right. Driving is a bore! In "Wild Wheels," Harrod Blank takes the "auto" matic out of automobile for an hour of pure family fun! In this, his second film, filmmaker Blank explores a nation of eccentrics who, like himself, woke up one day driven toward making something new, colorful and personal out of their straight factory cars. At first glance, Blank's 1992 documentary film has a "don't do this at home, kids" kind of feel with Blank getting pulled over by the police for daring to be different behind the wheel. But in no time, Blank has made us forget traffic court and driven us far out across a land of rebel creative souls with cars the likes of which you have never imagined. From the Hippo Car and the Cow-asaki bovine motorcycle to the Wrought Iron VW Bug and the Grass Car, the 46 cars featured in "Wild Wheels" turn the classic icon on its head

26. Local Hero
Non-political, comedy. One of my all time favorite movies. Music by Mark Knopfler

Local Hero (1983)
Starring: Burt Lancaster, Peter Riegert Director: Bill Forsyth

Plot Summary

* Genres: Comedy, Drama
* Plot Outline An American oil company sends a man to Scotland to buy up an entire village where they want to build a refinery. But things don't go as expected.

Filming Locations: Ben Nevis Distillery, Fort William, Highlands, Scotland, UK| Hilton, Highlands, Scotland, UK| Houston, Texas, USA| Lochailort Inn, Lochailort, Highlands, Scotland, UK| Pennan, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK| Pole of Itlaw, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK| white sands, Camusdarrach, Morar, Mallaig, Highlands, Scotland, UK

The plot runs along almost as if behind the scenes, and the characters are intriguing, but the real appeal here is the incisive yet gentle humor. During a visit to a Knox Oil lab, Mac is shown into a room that contains a miniature of the town he has been sent to purchase. The head of the lab says, "Welcome to our little world," and then gives Mac the plastic replica of the town as a souvenir. "Dream large," he intones. The irony's easy to miss and is just one example of the intelligent presence--in the form of writer and director Bill Forsyth--working behind the scenes here.

Mark Knopfler's delicate, haunting soundtrack complements the sometimes melancholy, sometimes hilarious currents of Local Hero to perfection. --Stefanie Durbin

The story is simple -- materialistic Peter Reigert is sent to a small Scottish village to try to negotiate a land deal for his rich, eccentric boss (Burt Lancaster, who is outstanding). He arrives in Scotland as a guy who is only obsessed with business deals, his car, and his posessions back in Texas, but soon he learns there are more important things in life. The townsfolk are absolutely wonderful, all in their own unique, eclectic way. Denis Lawson particularly shines as "jack of all trades" who holds several positions in the community, including innkeeper.

The oddness and beauty of this film takes time to unfold, and it is best just to sit back and watch it happen. Everyone seems to have a story, everyone is eccentric in some way. I especially loved Burt Lancaster and his interaction with his "therapist", who takes the job *far* too seriously. Lancaster plays one of the most likeable and unique characters onscreen. Reigert too, is endearing. He so wants to be "normal" that he can't even admit that he might use a shampoo for dry or greasy hair. "Normal. EXTRA normal.", he says, when asked what kind of shampoo he needs. What an uptight guy he seems at first, but he soon mends his ways.

44. I second that.
This movie is on my top ten favorites list. It's funny, quirky and thought provoking. The scenery and music or haunting, both blend into each other so well they become one. I have it DvD and just watched it again last weekend.

I also would recommend The Matchmaker. I loved this movie and laughed so hard I almost snapped a rib.

Janeane Garofalo plays Marcy Tizard, an aide to Massachusetts Senator John McGlory (Jay O. Sanders). The senator, with his reelection campaign going down the proverbial toilet, sends Marcy to Ballinagra in Ireland to discover his roots. Although she has trouble finding any evidence of the McGlory family there, she does not want for company since a local matchmakers festival is in full swing.

31. Wanna Laugh? Rent Jeff Dunham: Arguing With Myself
If ya haven't seen it already.

He is one of the most brilliant stand up comics there is right now in my opinion. I've seen this 7 times already and still don't laugh any less, and am no less fascinated at how good he is every time I watch it.

It is laugh out loud funny.
