Anyone have the "Good Night, and Good Luck" soundtrack?
I saw the movie last night (great, BTW) and loved the songs Dianne Reeves sung during it. Has anybody else heard the whole album yet?

2. I own it and love it.
There are 15 great "jazz combo" songs on it. It is definitely worth buying.

5. Clooney picked out the five songs that played in the film.
The "soundtrack" has several songs that were not in the film. That is why they could not be considered for the Best Soundtrack Oscar.

15. They just didn't have enough songs from the movie
to do a full album. Apparently Clooney was invoilved in every aspect of picking the music for the film. He wanted the music and the way the musicians look on film to be totally accurate to the period. Peter says he was obsessive about it.

4. I have the soundtrack...Dianne's band leader and piano player,
Edited on Fri May-19-06 10:01 AM by GumboYaYa
Peter Martin, is a good friend of mine. Peter and Dianne put the album together. If you notice in the movie, all the players in the band are caucasian. Dianne's actual band is racially diverse. Dianne wanted to use her actual band in the movie, but they could not because during the time period of the movie Caucasians and African-Americans did not play together on stage as a band. There are some members of Dianne's actual band in the movie, among them my friend Peter. He is the bald piano player that you see in a few shots.

Dianne really holds back on this soundtrack. Listen to some of her earlier albums or go see her live sometime. She fills up the whole place with her voice. I marvel at her all the time.

by a Dr. John Song entitled "GrisGris GumboYaYa". It means, everyone talking at once; which I thought was appropriate for DU.

Peter and I are putting together a new film project right now. Peter organized a charity benefit concert last December in St. Louis and it generated a lot of money for Oxfam. The Chicago Symphony Hall saw it and asked him to open their calendar next fall with the same lineup. When we went back to the artists they were so excited about the prospect that we decided to put a tour together with shows in NY, DC, LA, SF and ending in New Orleans (we only have the Chicago date set for now). Dianne is one of the artists particpating in the shows. All the proceeds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity's Musician's Village in New Orleans.

Peter asked me to put together a documentary about the concert that ties the music in a tangible way to the destruction in New Orleans. We are at the storyboard and pitch phase right now, but expect to start shooting by late summer. It should be fun.

11. She was one of the most wonderful surprises of the movie.
I had no idea there were going to be jazz interludes in the movie, and wow, did that ever add a kick to the film!

I have the album "At Last" by the late Lou Rawls, and Reeves partners with him on a couple of songs. The effect is amazing.

By the way, I didn't know Clooney selected the songs. What can I say? The guy has taste.
