"In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not". John 1:4-5

Most of us who believe in God at this site also have evolved to the point in which we can spell properly and use proper grammar.

cheapshots are inneffective. i've got a BA in medieval literature & i've been published (only once) in a scholastic journal; the subject was communion references in the old english poem "beowulf".

i've also filed several thousand police reports that resulted in warrants, prosecution, and a 90% conviction rate.

i shdnt nd to be oh-so-correct in an informal forum, but if you can't attack the message, stone the messenger.

just for the record, i'm not afraid of light or dark. i don't live in fear. that was a "metaphor", to clarify.

funny how you can prove almost any point w/ a bible quote. it just fits all occasions, neh? leveticus back at ya'...

24. I see the issue with people who
force their faith down the throats of others, but what is the problem with those who want to practice their religion in peace without bothering anyone? Do certain liberals really begrudge them that right? Is it really necessary to ridicule them?

This is to religion bashers in general, not just the OP. And for the record, I'm an atheist -- or maybe it would be better to call me agnostic since I'd be willing to consider proof.

75. Kind of depends who you talk to, really.
There's a lot of anthropological evidence that a "high god" has been worshipped by humans ever since the dawn of recorded history. The other "gods" oftentimes started out as either 1) the patron "high god" of a city or region, or 2) the manifestation of a certain characteristic of the high god, which later became its own entity.

In fact, Baal was originally one of these "city gods", as was El (the Judeo-Christo-Islamic "God").

So it appears that god perseveres in one form or another, but just goes by a different name.

62. Jukes, a question
Did you miss a dose this morning? Or take too much?

You're being quite impossible to people with whom you could otherwise get along.

71. i expressed my opinion in a thread
and was called a "fucking asshole". the peolpe that are aggressively offended here NORMALLY just shun me, so i doubt that i'm pissing off any1 that didn't already dislike me.

i don't take scheduled meds to maintain my equilibrium, BTW. i jsut occasionally do recreational drugs to avoid the thought-process. it's sort of like "praying".

EVERYONE: i have as much right to express my opinions here as any1, and i really don't care if you don't "like" me. if the boss thinks i'm out of line, he'll ban me, but *i* haven't called any1 a "fucking asshole".

i didn't even "alert" on that flagrant violation.

80. Yes, and no
You DO have a right to express your opinion and think as you do. No one questions that. I even support it.

Here's where I get off the jukeswagon:

You DO have a responsiblity to express yourself in a way that is rational and calm, and mature. You've got major work to do there, son.

Oh and a quibble:

i jsut occasionally do recreational drugs to avoid the thought-process. it's sort of like "praying".

No it's not the same as praying. Praying focuses the mind to achieve clarity of thought, not respite from the thought process.

You might consider meditation, not drugs, to help you empty your mind and achieve serenity. You can do that AND be athiest, you know.

68. Nope, the face will change, but the idea will stay
The manifestation of that belief will continue to change, but no, God is here to stay, even if we gain immortality.

I'm in a mixed marriage, Presbyterian and Reform Jew. Folks asked us in which religion we would raise our Children. I answered, "American Materialism, of course" They thought I was making a joke......

For a long time, my religion was "Deadhead"..I regularly participated in mass organized rituals where we would sing and dance under the guidance of an anointed priesthood which was supported financially by the adherents. I certainly derived an ethos from the songs of the Grateful Dead and applied that ethos to my everyday life. What was missing was an historical, personal Deity - well, I didn't miss it.

Jesus is reported to have said, "you cannot serve two Masters, God and Money" Now, you tell me which of these Masters most of us here in the USA serve....

If you can describe a religion as that thing which you primarily "have your mind set on" then my religion is my wife and kids...

If you describe God as the Supreme Being, then I would have to say that I believe in God and that how I try to understand God is through the monotheistic Semite God embraced by Judaism, its offshoot Christianity and Islam.

70. Ever have moments when you look around
and realize you're surrounded by people that make you sick to your stomach? You KNOW it's not all of them, but a few of them are just so disgusting you want to throw up?

I'm having one of those moments right now.
