2. I called DELL and said I'm sending my new computer back!
I took my old Dell with me when I placed the order for my new one. The salesman was impressed that I had a cell phone type of connection. I very calmly explained that if I can't sit in my car and connect with mapquest the computer is worthless to me. My new computer must be compatible with my needs. Now is that too hard to understand!
When I was in North Carolina last month the only way I could connect to the web was with my satellite link.

Dell was getting sooo many returns that they researched the problem and came up with a solution instead of getting swamped with return. Hello Team: The controversy about the aircard adapters for the laptops with an express slot is over.....Here is the real deal....There are two adapters out there that work. They are USB port adapters. I got this straight from the horses mouth, the people who distribute these and work with them all day long. If they don't work, it is only because of one of three things.

1. The customer went online and purchased the wrong adapter for their card type.
2. Their card type is not supported by the adapter.
3. they have not configured their system correctly for air cards (start, programs, accessories, communications)

So: I tony and I have have done some research for you and, this is what you do.

1. Determine which adapter the customer needs (look below at the pictures) ask the customer if they have the gold strip on their card. If so, they need the U132 adapter. If no gold strip is present, the need the U111 adapter.

2. Check the list of supported cards at the bottom of this page to determine if their card is supported.

3. Email them the proper link blow to make their online purchase of the adapter......

Let's stop doing returns on the aircard issues....

Thanks for your sympathy. It's nice to know somebody is listening.

3. Did they make you whole?
Did the small print solution work for you or did you have to return the computer?

I'm sorry you had the headache. I just got a new computer at work and they mocked my ancient one as they carted it away. It will be great but I'm getting used to new, more recent versions of my programs and things aren't where I was used to seeing them.

But when I finish the learning curve I will rock.

I hope yours is doing all you need it to now!

:loveya:

5. Not yet.

www.teampctechnology.com/product_detail.php?id=293 All orders placed after May 15 will be on a two week backorder delay. x( Which means that: 1) I won't have wireless technology (unless there is local high speed wireless service that I can tap into) 2) I will be past Dell's 21 day return police when the adapter arrives.

I'm taking both Dells and my Canon with all of its software to someone this afternoon and see how much we can figure out.
I'll spend a bit of time here at home searching out the msn dial-up access numbers for the places I'm hanging my hat in Florida.

I haven't found a problem with "small print" but I can't load my smilie-tray into the new Dell from the email link. I'm sure the CD backup (which I almost didn't order) will be here soon.

6. Dell talks nicely to me.

I need lots of patience as I go ballistic.
The tech staff has never lost their cool or accidentally disconnected while I needed help with a problem.
BTW ~ this is my 3rd Dell.

:hi:
