Partially because he was also a cast member of the now-defunct Seattle-based comedy skit show called "Almost Live!". I got to meet him when he did a presentation at a store I worked at in the mid-90's. Nice, unpretentious guy. :-)

He was once a student of Carl Sagan's at Cornell, btw.

25. Sorry, Scotty was w-a-a-a-a-y cooler and hotter...
than the Cupcake.

I think they only brought the Cupcake onboard to get her to prance around in silver undies.

Scotty, on the otherhand, ROCKED.

Too bad Scotty left and the Cupcake stayed. :(

39. Without doubt Sagan for me.
I've read only two of his books, but I have a great fondness for him. A great humanist as well as a great apologist for reason. He inspired many - and you can never have too many Sagan imitators.

28. Richard Feynman
"There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers."

"The first principle is that you must not fool yourself - and you are the easiest person to fool."

"It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong"

"There is a computer disease that anybody who works with computers knows about. It's a very serious disease and it interferes completely with the work. The trouble with computers is that you 'play' with them!"

RIP, Dick.

IMHO, Bill Nye just doesn't compare. Oh sure, Nye's cool and all, but Mr. Wizard once ripped a power cord off a lamp and tied the ends to two forks then stuck the ends of the forks in a hot dog weenie and plugged the lamp cord into a 120V receptacle. He cooked it until it exploded. Hot dog bits went flying everywhere. Can't beat that. Also, he taught how to find out how tall a tree was using a pan of water. Wonder if Nye would ever consider doing that?

41. Dr. Julius Sumner Miller.

He was featured on the old Mickey Mouse Club, and in the 70s on a bizarre Canadian kiddie monster show called the Hilarious House of Frightenstein. And it was hard science with formulae and everything.

If you remember the show, this should bring back some memories: http://www.frightenstein.com

47. I didn't either!
But there was a curtness...even a meanness that I thought he projected (I was quite young at the time).

I LOVED that show. I wrote to them and got a whole bunch of stuff...stickers and the like. I don't know what ever happened to them.

I still remember Vincent Price's opening and closing monologues (and the music). My favourite show as a kid, bar none. :bounce:

There are also a couple of actual episodes you can d/l from that page.

You may have lost your HHOF swag, but maybe this will ease the pain. :)

Cheers!
