Halo around the moon tonight
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 10:40 PM by supernova
There's a halo around the moon tonight. What do you mean, supernova? There's a lot of mist in the air such that the light from the moon bounces off it, creating a "ring" around the moon. It's gorgeous to look at. It makes the moon look otherworldly, magical to me.

According to local folklore, that means within 7-10 days we will get some form of frozen precipitation here in NC. Ice storm or snow, take your pick. Guess I better get that snow shovel and get that new battery for the car.

1. Yes...
the same here in MN. I think it's from the ice in the atmosphere.

Damn cold. I need to get out of MN.....

2. Ah, it is raining and 45 degrees in Chicago. No moon.
Though I imagine we will have some form of frozen precipitation here within 7 - 10 days.

3. It's rare that we get it in December
here. It's a bit early for hard winter here. That's what made me mention it. 'Course last year we had a vicious ice storm about this same time, so what do I know?

5. Aww. What a lovely thought.
RIP, Paul Simon.

Someone asked over in GD I think if any of us remembered the SNL skit with Paul Simon and Paul Simon. I did. Most hilarious guest hosting stunt ever. :D

6. I wish I could see the moon
It's snowing right now in KC, and doesn't appear to be letting up any time soon.

That halo must have been here last week. :)

7. According to my Grandmother,
A ring around the moon means "falling weather" (aka precipitation) is coming. Here in Arkieland, that mostly means rain but NC may be quite another matter. Maw always said that the number of stars inside the ring meant the number of days before the weather event would occur.

Please let us know what happens!
