HOTEL RWANDA--Saddest Movie I've Seen Yet.
Edited on Sun May-14-06 11:04 AM by WritingIsMyReligion
Oh. My. Gosh.

Screaming kids, people covered in blood, people starving, lines and lines of dead Tutsis along roadsides...and those hateful, hateful interagamwe soldiers raping, killing, and calling the Tutsis "cockroaches."

That is one HELL of a movie, man. :wow:

And Paul Rusesabagina--now THERE'S a hero.

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

2. I haven't seen it yet but...
you might be interested in his autobiography. Here's an Amazon link:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0670037524/sr=8-3/qid=1147622616/ref=pd_bbs_3/002-3620165-2633609?%5Fencoding=UTF8

Of course, after seeing the movie you might not be up to reading about it right away, but it's supposed to be very good. I think he's on a book tour for it now too.

5. It's VERY good.
To be sure, there were some faults, but it's very powerful nonetheless. Don Cheadle as Rusesabagina is amazing.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

10. That was my reaction too...
I couldn't sleep after seeing it several hours earlier.

"...for being human" says it all...Too often we lay the blame on specific people, when it can only be traced to something inherently human.

Only when we recognize this, and each of us deals with our personal monsters, can we hope to evolve away from such atrocities. Thank you for the reminder... :hug:

Life can be so ugly for so many people. We are lucky.

8. Unbelievable powerful film
I started bawling about 10 minutes in, and didn't stop until well after the movie ended.

If you can find it, also get "Shake Hands With the Devil" which is Romeo Daillaire's story (he's who Nick Nolte's character was based on)

9. An equally good film on the same topic is
"Sometimes in April" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0400063/

I highly recommend it.

11. I have a Ugandan friend
that was at a school there that bordered on the river that ran from Rawanda during the massacres. The bodies floated down that river for weeks. He won't even talk about it other than saying that. So awful.

14. I agree.
I saw the movie a couple of months ago. That movie is still haunting, especially since we the US have all but ignored these atrocities -- until it was too late for those who died, maimed, or abused.
