I was walking my greyhound through the park today, when a deer came out of the woods and walked over towards us. I mean, really walked up to us. Was standing 5 feet away. It was behaving in a manner so peculiar to wild deer that I was thinking -- gee, can deer get rabies?
It just stood there looking at us very sweetly. We stayed there for a bit, and then we walked on.
The deer followed. Sometimes it walked in the woods next to us just off the path, sometimes it walked on the road directly behind me. People would pass by, and say to me -- Uh, do you know that there is a deer following you?"
It followed me for 15 minutes. When I turned around to walk in the opposite direction, the deer also turned around and continued to follow us -- 15 minutes in the opposite direction.
Two people came by on bikes and came to a sudden halt. They said that from a distance they thought I was walking a greyhound while another greyhound walked behind us, but when they got closer, they realized it was a deer. I told them it had followed me for a half hour, and I had no idea why.
When it reached the spot where it first emerged from the woods, it stopped following me.
Awwwwww.
I'm going to take her a bag of apples tomorrow.
